MILWAUKEE — As cold weather settles in for another year, We Energies wants customers to know that winter heating bills are forecast to be higher compared to last year, but in line with what households saw in the winters of 2022–23 and 2021–22. The 2023–24 winter is excluded from comparisons because it was the warmest in recorded history.
This year’s increase comes mostly from higher natural gas prices and predicted colder temperatures compared to last winter. Additional factors include new investments in reliability — such as equipment upgrades and new liquefied natural gas storage — that will deliver long-term value for customers.
What We Energies is doing for customers
We Energies is working to keep bills as low as possible. The company uses a multi-pronged approach to make sure customers have the reliable energy they need, while limiting the impact of sudden price changes. The company buys and stores gas when it is typically lower priced and locks in guaranteed natural gas contracts at fixed prices. We Energies does not profit from the cost of natural gas; customers pay what the company pays.
