  1. Our government is full of racist idiots that are genuinely driving the nation into the mud.

  2. Yes, we really don’t need this publicity now (or ever). We are in an economic crisis and our image must be welcoming to investors and researchers. Especially asian ones, who excel in the latest technologies.

All this does is just give a bad image which potentially discourages investors and researchers. These people who did this don’t think very far.

Edit. For our asian friends, please don’t mind these fools. They don’t represent us.

  3. It is also headline news in many Asians countries.
Thanks to these idiots , Finland is now put on international headlines ( very rarely) for all the wrong reasons and these people are still acting like they achieved Nobel or something.
Finland – you deserve much better!

  4. These idiots made a racist gesture. When they got called out, instead of apologizing they just went: “Well, you all just misunderstood what we meant.”

These morons are still allowed to work for the government, no consequences whatsoever. a regular Joe would have been fired over this.

So you know what? Good on people calling us out for this shit. I hope this’ll be the push that makes people realize that these people should not be working there.

I’m glad other countries get informed about the absolute clowns we have here.

  5. To Foreigners, Please don’t fall into the trap of letting these people form your impression of what Finland is.

  6. I’m an Asian American who was strongly considering Helsinki in my solo travel plans next year.   Seeing this, in combination with their rightwing, anti-immigration government, now puts Finland near the bottom of my list.   Last thing I want is some racist jerk casting a pall over my trip.  Especially in a foreign land where I’d be hesitant to confront them, unlike here in the US.

  7. It became very profitable to become an asshole and a bully, especially as a right wing nutjob. That’s what happened. We started rewarding the wrong people way more than usual.

  8. A person can only pretend for so long. Sooner or later, their real character surfaces, as we see in this case. There will always be people who act irresponsibly and without concern for others. They exist everywhere, in Finland and around the world.

The real issue here is not just the individuals involved, but how the situation was handled. The Prime Minister downplayed the incident instead of taking decisive action, such as removing those responsible. This sends the message that the matter was not taken seriously and that racism is not viewed as a serious problem under his leadership. Regardless of what he may have intended to communicate, the outcome was a failure of leadership.

This incident is also part of a broader problem: the current government is willing to cooperate with known racists and far-right actors in order to advance its political goals. That, in itself, is deeply troubling.
