WANA (Dec 16) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei condemned the continued killing and “genocide” of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through sustained bombardment and the obstruction of humanitarian aid, stressing the responsibility of the international community and the United Nations to take urgent and effective measures to stop the crimes and prosecute war criminals and perpetrators of genocide.
Baghaei referred to a recent United Nations General Assembly resolution concerning the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which underscores the obligation of all states under Common Article 1 of the 1949 Geneva Conventions to ensure respect for international humanitarian law.
He strongly denounced what he described as repeated and grave violations of humanitarian law, as well as the commission of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide by the Israeli regime, emphasizing the need to end its impunity.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman described the United States and other military and political supporters of Israel as partners and accomplices in the genocide of Palestinians and other crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as in Lebanon and Syria.
He said that despite claimed ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon, Israel continues to carry out “brutal crimes” in the occupied territories and Lebanon, with full U.S. backing and amid the inaction of ceasefire guarantors.
Baghaei also cited Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon, the killing of Lebanese civilians, and the destruction of the country’s infrastructure and vital facilities as clear evidence of what he called the regime’s aggressive nature and inherent hostility toward the security and development of regional countries.
He called on regional states and the international community to take serious action to confront what he described as the constant threat posed by the “racist Zionist regime” to regional and global peace and stability.
