Central Statistical Bureau data published on December 16th offers some continued encouragement to Latvia’s hospitality sector.
Figures which were acquired by compiling the monthly information provided by sector representatives on tourist accommodation showed that in October 2025 arrivals at Latvian hotels and guesthouses totalled 206.8 thousand, which is 4.7 % more than in October 2024.
The number of nights spent by visitors at tourist accommodation establishments totalled 367.4 thousand, which is 6.5 % more than in October 2024, so not only are more visitors coming, but they are also staying a bit longer.
Unsurprisingly, with the high season for tourists drawing to a close in September, October saw a drop-off compared to the previous month with the number of travellers decreasing by 16.2 % (the number of residents reduced by 6.4 %, but the number of non-residents by 22.1 %), the number of nights spent by them went down by 13 % (the number of nights spent by residents reduced by 2.4 %, but the number of nights spent by non-residents by 18.7 %).
The number non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 120.6 thousand in October 2025 (58.3 % of all arrivals), which is 1.2 % more than in October 2024. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared to October last year, has grown by 3.8 % and comprised 224.4 thousand. Non-residents on average spent 1.9 nights at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.8 nights in October last year).
The greatest number of non-resident travellers came from Lithuania (15 thousand), Estonia (12.9 thousand), the United Kingdom (12.5 thousand), Germany (10.1 thousand), Finland (7.4 thousand), Sweden (4.9 thousand), Poland (4.8 thousand), USA (4.6 thousand), Spain and Denmark (4.3 thousand).
Compared to arrivals in October 2024, in October 2025 there was a significant increase in the number of visitors from the United Kingdom (an increase of 64.8 % or 4.9 thousand) and from Italy (31.8 % or 0.7 thousand). The figure for UK visitors is likely explained by the Latvia versus England football match which took place on October 14th.
Most non-resident travellers were accommodated in Riga (80.7 %), followed by Jūrmala (4.9 %), Mārupe municipality (4.3 %), Liepāja municipality (1.9 %), and Sigulda municipality (1 %).
In October, the average room occupancy rate of hotels and similar accommodation in Latvia was 43 % (a year-over-year rise of 1.8 percentage points), 54.9 % – in Riga (a year-over-year increase of 2.4 percentage points).
In the first ten months of 2025 the number of visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 2.45 million, which is 4.9 % more than in the first ten months of 2024.
