It disgusts me that this has to be framed as an economic issue to be addressed. Our loss of biodiversity is an issue based in reality. Has nothing to do with all the fake money we push around and everything to do with overpopulation, overconsumption, and laws to restrict humans to a techno-growth mindset/culture.
“Robust climate policy” will do absolutely nothing to help save people’s finances. No one alive today will live long enough to see any return on climate policies; instead, no matter how good the policies become, climate will continue to worsen for at least another 50 years beyond the original release of emissions. That lag is built into the system.
And this is the challenge, as much psychological as physical, that faces us. People expect a return for their investment — they expect to see a result for their actions. When climate continues to get worse, no matter what, it will be even harder to convince people to give up current luxuries for long term benefits. Not everyone gives a damn about future generations.
Unfortunately, the majority of Americans, conservative and liberals, have shown that they don’t give af about climate change. They seem to majorly feign to care about cost of living and seem to care a lot about culture war issues.
