“The passenger side of the car was covered in hot tar, which poured out of the back of the articulated lorry upon impact, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.
Emergency responders who arrived at the scene were not aware there was a passenger in the car, and the body of the dead young man, Ross Rice (22), was only discovered a couple of hours after the crash”.
Shocking. Rest in peace young man🙏
Speeding, without a licence, presumably also without insurance, on the way to hunt with lurchers, presumably illegally and trespassing, then leaves friend to die in hot tar.
Bad day out.
Leaving people to die is all too common
Ye, friend of the year…
On bail for other offences at the time
Tale old as time in this country
Pulled to safety by the truck driver he crashed into, then disappeared from the scene, leaving his friend under hot tar in the passenger seat and two dogs in the boot. Never told anyone they were there. Never tried to get help. Just thinking of himself.
Cowardly.
>The speedometer of the car was found stopped at 162km/hour. The speed limit of the road was 60km/h at the time due to ongoing roadworks
Will we ever get it through to people that they’re dancing with death at ridiculous speeds like this? All it takes is a blow out, a piece of debris on the road or temporary changes to the road like this and you’ve no chance of control.
My brother and his pals were fond of speed, luckily my brother was too broke to be on the road much. The wider group only (mostly) slowed down when 2 of the wider group died in separate crashes within a couple of years.
The judge accepted he was genuinely remorseful for causing the death of his friend…. He didn’t even bother to let people know at the scene that his friend was there? On bail, no license, speeding, and the judge talks like that.
‘Kelly was gone. Kelly did not sustain any serious injuries in the crash, the court heard.
He was arrested a couple of days later and told gardaí he caught a taxi to his mother’s house after the crash. He said he went to his cousin’s home to smoke some cannabis and then rang Mr Rice’s sister and girlfriend to tell them he had been involved in a crash.’
What an absolute scumbag!
“She disqualified him from driving for eight years and ordered that he undergo a speed awareness programme prior to applying for a new licence”
