I came across the trailer for a recently released Norwegian animated film on YouTube. It's called "Spermageddon" and it caught my interest.

As a non-Norwegian, I’m curious how the film is viewed in Norway.
Is it actually popular in Norway? And do people feel it represents Norwegian culture well?

  6. I went to see it in the cinema. Thought it was fine. The humour just wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. I didn’t find it offensive though.

    There were some reactions to it from prudish people, but I think most people didn’t care that much.

    No film can represent all aspects of culture. But since it’s made by Norwegians it must necessarily represent some of Norwegian culture. The filmmaker, Tommy Wirkola, is well known in Norway.

  7. Its absolute peak. Greatest musical I have seen right behind captain sabertooth. Also the greatest guitar solo I have ever heard.

  8. I saw it in theaters because it’s one of my favorite directors. I liked it! It’s over the top and ridiculous for sure though.

    It’s also basically sex education disguised as a silly “adult” cartoon. I’d recommend it for teens / young adults for that reason.

  13. It’s ok. They had to pull out every pun in the book, which is mildly amusing. And I like how it pisses off certain people. But they should have kept Olsenbanden out of it. I couldn’t pay full attention to it, but I only can with the very best movies.

  14. I hate it, just as I hate many movies that came out while I worked at a cinema (aka while I had to see the posters or trailers constantly). It just felt like an attempt to beat the danish at «who can have the most inappropriate movie trailer»

  15. It was a conversation topic when the trailer first popped. But it made more waves outside of Norway vs here. Because as quickly as it came, no pun intended… It left every conversation fully, and I had honestly forgotten about it.

    Tho should still point out that it did really well in the cinemas when it first arrived

  19. Saw it at a preview. Quite liked it. It’s over the top and raunchy, sure, but it’s got quite a bit of heart and all around good intentions and messages.

  20. Me and a couple of my friends came across that poster while we were in the cinema on our way to a different movie a couple months ago.

    We had the same “what the fuck?” Reaction as anyone from any other country.

    90% of the humor was puns and references to other Norwegian stuff.

    I didn’t watch it, it seemed a bit juvenile to me, but honestly its not really anything I care about. I think most Norwegians share my opinion of it not being that interesting nor shocking or inappropriate.

  25. Personally I found it funny and awkward, which they said is part of the point. It’s basically sex ed as a silly adult cartoon movie, that also tells you that it’s fine for sex to be awkward.
