Russia: US has promised us Ukrainian territory

   The United States has promised Russia that Ukraine will give up territory as part of a peace settlement, Moscow’s foreign minister has said.

   Sergei Lavrov said the Trump administration understood that “territories where Russians have lived for centuries should once again become part of Russia”.

   Mr Lavrov was referring to Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Crimea – five Ukrainian territories that were illegally annexed by Vladimir Putin in 2022.

   His comments came after US officials held talks with Ukrainian and European leaders in Berlin about a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

   The US told Kyiv and its European allies to accept its “platinum” offer of security guarantees in exchange for ceding some territory to Russia.

   Putin has demanded that Ukraine withdraw from the remainder of the Donbas region, made up of Donetsk and Luhansk, which is not currently under Russian military control.

   Moscow has also insisted that Ukraine be barred from joining Nato, a request Mr Lavrov said the US also understood.

2. I struggle to see much difference between demanding/offering this and the Munich agreement of 1938. Other than Russia already having gone and started a full scale invasion prior to this point.

   So … nothing about dismantling the Nazi in Kyiv like Russia said in the beginning ? Just give us some territory and we are all good !

5. “Our people lived there for hundreds of years”

   Sounds familiar… Almost like it’s the same justification used for every war of expansion, like ever.

6. Paraphrasing: “Demand everything. Settle for half. Now you have 100% more than you did before your demands”

7. The only land US can give someone is US land. So, what will it be, Alaska? Chop chop

8. The thing is Donbas is the richest region in Ukraine in natural resources, and in my opinion the very reason this war started. For Ukraine to concede Donbas is a defeat.

11. It’s not our land to promise away to anyone, so it means absolutely nothing.

    There’s a reason all those comparisons between Putin and Shitler exist.

If this is true and not Russia just throwing wrenches for the sake of maintaining the status quo, Russia’s economy is tied to the hip of this war, then the US has essentially killed any hopes for a peaceful settlement here. This will, in the absolute sense, escalate the situation, dragging that continent even closer to war than anytime since ww2.

    This is ugly af.

    Coercion is not the way to peace. Coercion will lead to war.

14. Hey, here is a news for you Mr. Lavrov. Trump’s “promise” isn’t worth anything. Ask his bankers.
