  1. This artefact belongs in a museum!

    No, not that museum!

  2. But mum said it was my turn to repost some tired old shit today

  3. All jokes aside, to at museum inspired me to travel the world. It’s important to have such places

  4. We’ll keep it safe for you. You can come and look at it anytime you want and you can have it back when you can be trusted to look after it.

  5. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💯💯💯

  6. British culture is stealing culture from other countries

  7. And? People act as if the rest of the world have never done the same thing or something equally as bad.

  8. Hahahahaha the British Museum is uniquely evil and is the only museum in the world that does this what a unique and insightful point that nobody else has ever made you are so smart

  9. Elgin bought the marbles because they were going to be destroyed. If the Greeks wanted them they should have preserved them. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  10. Do you know why Rosetta’s Stone is in the British Museum? Because locals destroyed all their artefacts, but lost this one in the sand?

Do you know why pyramids were perfectly smooth and now they are not? Because locals tried to destroy them!

  11. U dont understand, it was gifted to the museum, but dont ask how the donors got them.

  12. As a British Asian, im telling you, sometimes the British Museum was absolutely right to take it. The turmoil abroad is far too much. I reckon half of the exhibits would be smashed to bits if left in situ.

So many countries today are so undeserving of their rich heritage and cultural past.

  13. Well at least we’ll keep it safe and let lots of people look learn about it

  14. Technically you could argue that we ruled quite a few of the countries that we took artefacts from when we took them.

Not that it makes it any more morally correct. Probably worse to be honest.

  15. Yeah I think we’re on the clear on this. Show me the locals who looked after their history better than we did, and I’ll back down!

  16. i honestly don’t get the hate that the british museum receives, it just seems like emotionally driven nuance lacking white knighting. they’re there to preserve them, and it’s probably the best place they could be. and the reason why they’re there is because the british were among the first to actually care about preservation of artifacts. it’s not like the british museum is going around chipping pieces off the rosetta stone to sell in their gift shop, they’re pretty goddamn protected

  17. Tbf, we have looked after their stuff better than they have…
