  1. In a letter to the *Wall Street Journal*, Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Michael McFaul argues the newly published National Security Strategy ignores the main threats to American power (Russia and China), in favor of angering our traditional allies in Europe, and focuses on our own hemisphere. “To pretend the Chinese threat in Asia and the Russian threat in Europe can be ignored as we turn our attention to Venezuela feels like 1930s-era foolishness,” he writes. But he adds that the new strategy document has already sparked useful debate about US priorities, as polls show a large majority of Americans support renewed military aid to Ukraine and better relations with traditional allies.

Alliances are a two way street. European speeches spoken by their leaders are politically correct, fluffy, and feel good. They say the right things that elites and social media users eat up and give applause for.

The actual actions of European leaders besides those in Poland, the Baltics, and Finland, have shown these same leaders are hesitant at best towards being committed partners in the very same alliance they expect America to be ride or die for. Accusations towards America of being an unreliable, insular partner fall flat when for decades those throwing these accusations have themselves been unreliable, insular partners.

America was strong even before the world wars, and if it reverts back to a state where it adopts a modern Monroe doctrine it won’t be the sky is falling scenario out of touch elites and their media mouthpieces keep claiming it will be.

Russia is not a threat to the USA, outright confrontation with China will likely be the end of the world and must be avoided, Europe needs to have a fire lit under its ass to finally understand it needs to pull its weight more, and Latam IS Americas back yard and America must have supremacy and influence in it to protect its homeland. The NNSS is 100% correct even if those who need to hear it most want to reject its message.

America warned Europe that it was pivoting to Asia and that Europe needed to take military spending and Russian aggression seriously and America was laughed at/insulted/ignored. You can’t help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves.

  3. Hasn’t the US been pivoting towards Asia for a decade now? I don’t see Europe doing the same.

  4. What…? One of the main focus in the new NSS is the US focusing the reprioritization of domestic resilience (e.g., border security, economic infrastructure) and the Western Hemisphere as immediate strategic concerns. which narrows focus to core national interests and deemphasizes extended commitments to Europe and the Middle East. This almost directly comes as a correlation with how the NSS **t**reats the Indo-Pacific as a central strategic theater.

With the US pulling back brought unanimous support for NATO and acting as the EU’s bodyguard, it will undoubtedly start placing its enforcement in the pacific and thus China and Taiwan’s inevitable brawl

  5. The problem isn’t that they don’t want to. It’s that they realize that it’s getting more and more difficult to present a credible deterrence.
