  6. I once had plans with someone who didn’t show up, and found out the next day they had died unexpectedly just before meeting with me. I don’t think it’ll ever leave me – mainly because of my grief from the loss of the person, but also because that awful survivors’ guilt feeling of wishing you were just one step ahead. I’ll never forget waiting and feeling like something was wrong. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone

  11. Years ago, I was supposed to meet a coworker to give him a ride to work. He never showed. I called, waited a bit, then drove to his house. When I got there, there are cops everywhere, police dogs, and a freaking helicopter scouting the area.
    No one will say what’s going on. So I leave and go to work. Around lunch, someone was listening to the radio and came in to tell us to turn it on in the break room. Apparently, the guy I was supposed to pick up was high on coke and drunk, stole a car, tboned a minivan and killed the lady, and then ran off into the woods. So the cops I saw were all out looking for him when I came by that morning. He ended up getting like 40 years in prison. Pretty wild to think about.

  15. Years ago I was at the airport sending texts to a friend. She didn’t respond and I didn’t think too much of it.

    As I board the plane she texts me back “sorry- was asleep because I’m sick. Roommate is having me go see the doctor today.

    I board the plane – it was about a 2 hour flight.

    When I land, I turn my phone back on and her roommate had texted me that she had collapsed not long after my flight took off and she died on their bathroom floor due to pneumonia brought on by the flu.

  24. When I was 10, our landlord, who was like a big brother to me, told me he was going to take me out and teach me how to water ski the next day.

    Hours later we got a call that he was dead. He crashed his ultralight plane and died instantly.

    That was over forty years ago and I still tear up remembering my mother telling me.
