Polish regional rail operator Koleje Mazowieckie (Mazovian Railways) and Stadler Polska have signed a contract for the delivery of 11 additional FLIRT electric trains, marking the completion of the largest rolling stock investment program in the company’s history.
With this latest contract, the framework agreement now totals 75 FLIRT trains, of which 64 have already been contracted previously. The new units will contribute to improving passenger comfort on regional routes in the Masovian Voivodeship.
The first trains will enter service in 2026.
Adam Struzik, Marshal of the Mazovia Province, emphasized the scale of the modernization program:
“Mazovia Railways is one of the most modern regional operators in Poland, thanks in part to its constant investment in new rolling stock. In March, we signed a contract for 14 FLIRT trains, and now we are signing an additional one for another 11. In total, the project involves the purchase of 75 trains, with the first ones scheduled to enter service in April 2026.”
In addition to the delivery of trains, the contract includes maintenance services, staff training, and repair packages.
European funding and fleet expansion
Robert Stępień, CEO of Koleje Mazowieckie, said that the program is receiving European support:
“We are pleased that the framework agreement for 75 FLIRT trains is being fully implemented. The 64 units contracted so far have benefited from European funding, and we will also request financial support for the 11 additional trains.
Once deliveries are complete, Koleje Mazowieckie will operate 146 FLIRT trains, becoming the largest user of this type of rolling stock in Poland.
Production in Siedlce and the creation of new jobs
All new trains will be manufactured at the Stadler plant in Siedlce, with significant involvement from local suppliers and partners.
Radosław Banach, CEO of Stadler Polska, highlighted the industrial impact of the project:
“The signing of this latest contract is a milestone for us. The completion of the framework agreement allows us to continue expanding our activities in Siedlce. This year alone, we have created nearly 400 new jobs, and our engineering team has grown to 100 specialists, with the recruitment process still open.”
Increased comfort for passengers in Mazovia
The production of the 64 trains already ordered is on schedule, with 25 units currently in various stages of manufacture, commissioning, and type testing. The new trains will significantly improve the comfort and safety of passengers traveling between Warsaw and towns in the Mazovia region.
FLIRT trains are made of lightweight aluminum, have low energy consumption, can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, and are equipped with air conditioning, CCTV systems, Wi-Fi, modern passenger information systems, and onboard defibrillators. All units are fully accessible to people with reduced mobility.
A collaboration spanning almost two decades
The partnership between Stadler Polska and Koleje Mazowieckie has been going strong for almost 20 years. The first FLIRT trains delivered in 2006 are still in operation on regional routes, including the Warsaw–Siedlce line.
Between 2020 and 2023, Stadler delivered 61 FLIRT units, and contracts signed for 2024–2025 will bring another 75 trains to the operator’s fleet.
