Greek and Turkish officials are in contact to finalize dates for the next session of the Greece-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council, which diplomatic sources say will definitely take place in the first quarter of 2026.

According to the same sources, the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue has also been scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, in Athens, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expected to attend.

The Greece–Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council, established in 2010 to promote structured bilateral dialogue and cooperation, has met intermittently in recent years, with its most recent session held in December 2023.

On Cyprus, sources said an informal five-party meeting is likely to take place in New York in the first quarter of 2026. They pointed to a new dynamic following the recent election of Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, noting a willingness to continue confidence-building measures and to work toward a new expanded conference on the issue.

Cyprus has remained divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded following a coup backed by Greece. Only Turkey recognizes the Turkish Cypriot declaration of independence in the island’s northern third.

Meanwhile, Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis is believed to be preparing to take initiatives related to the western Balkans ahead of Greece’s presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2027.

He plans to visit the region’s EU candidate countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia Serbia, and Kosovo – all at different stages in the EU accession process.
