English: double, pair, deuce, couple
Yeah that’s not really a fair comparison.
Polish is highly inflexed language and usually you get a word core – dw(a)
and depending on grammatical case you add suffixes such as -om -ójką which are standardized in several groups but still – it is not a huge load of vocabulary to learn by heart, just more compound word formation.
It is similar* to the meme of German** being uninvitingly complex – it’s usually the compound words given as example.

Not only does it not include many other English words in the list (dual, twice, double, couple, etc), English also uses prefixes like “bi” to denote 2 (words like bicycle, binary, or bisexual)
I still feel like Polish is generally more difficult to learn, but what’s simple about the Polish language is that once you understand the rules, everything is pronounced the way it’s read, and written the way it’s pronounced. There’s simply a wider range of sounds to pronounce than English, so growing up learning Polish lets you pronounce English words more easily
In English however; “I read this newspaper” can be pronounced two different ways depending on the context of when the event is occurring. In Polish, the change of pronunciation that puts the timing into context is expressed in the actual text as well:
“Ja czytam tą gazete”
“Ja przeczytałem tą gazete”

I’m learning too. I’m doing Rosetta Stone and it’s pretty challenging. They don’t use English at all. Just Polish and pictures. I do not understand anything but nouns and greetings, even though I’ve had (and scored above 90%) lessons teaching me complete sentences. I don’t know when to use different forms of words. I’m at a part where I have to have a conversation and I failed it over and over until I just memorized the questions and answers. Nouns and greetings are probably as far as I’ll get unless I find some supplemental material.
What about “twice”?

The bets thing is there is no even “second” on the left, only different cases for “two”
I dont see “second” on polish side, there would be literally 3 times more words

It’s because of declination and genders.
Such construction of language is beneficial, because it provides more information in shorter text and it allows to compose statements freely.
If you don’t have declination you usually have strict word order.
So in reality we have variety of versions of the same word.
And if you change the letters to Cyryllic you get Ukrainian spelling

This is amazing. My wife is Polish. I’ve made attempts to try to learn but I’ve essentially given up. 2 did me in. I was learning to count and then she started saying 2 of various things and in multiple contexts. I’m pretty sure part of my brain melted down.
