Article 61 of the Magna Carta doesn’t mean you don’t have to pay council tax

  1. 99% of the people who invoke the Magna Carta as part of a legal argument are Freeman-on-the-land/Sovereign Citizen muppets whose only contribution to society is making content for r/amibeingdetained

  2. You can always decide not to pay tax, but if you do then the state are gonna send some heavies around to capture you. Freedom doesn’t come for free lol.

  3. The Magna Carta is BRILLIANT and has a surprising use in the todays modern world.

It’s a really good tool for identifying people who don’t have a fucking clue about how modern society and law works.

  4. I really wouldn’t expect the common rabble to understand an 800-year-old Royal charter when many barely understand contracts they sign on a day to day basis.

  5. Anyone who thinks magna carta is anything apart from an interesting historical document you can safely discount as a moron

  6. To quote the great Bob Dylan:

    > You can do what you wanna but, the next time you see me comin’ you better run.

  7. I hardly knew her!

Sovereign citizens irritate me with utter stupidity. Not one of them as ever won anyone over with their incoherent arguing yet they post it on social media like its a win.

  8. Those claiming it does are not going to read this article, they will either read ones that tell them what they want to hear or double down and shout about how you are wrong. My dad has thankfully not gone this far yet but he has fallen hook, like and sinker for the COVID bollocks that these types also believe in; he will happily tell me why I am wrong because he is not interested in facts. Some people are very happy living in a reality they have created for themselves and will not let anyone shatter that for them.

  9. Magna Carta was repealed, bit by bit. I’m not totally convinced Parliament should be able to do that (as in I think it’s bad), but it has, so…

  10. Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the magma carta only cover those of a certain socioeconomic status and not the general population? (I don’t know much about it tbh)
