Are there more?

  1. Classic British understatement! It’s funny how they can turn what sounds like a major disaster into just a mild inconvenience. I love how “It’s a bloody nightmare” can mean something as simple as bad traffic or internet issues – such a uniquely British way of putting things!

  2. In a bit of a pickle.

This could be used for an impending arrest for murder, financial ruin or just forgetting a password.

  3. “That’s not bad!”

Meaning: A very high form of praise

  4. There’s the famous “Things are a bit sticky, sir,” from Brig Tom Brodie of the Gloucestershire Regiment during the Korean war. The US general in charge took that to mean they were having a fight but were basically ok. Whereas Tom, obviously, meant “There’s 600 of us and 30,000 Chinese troops attacking. So send some reinforcements.if you don’t want to lose Seoul”.

Of course being British military they just got on with it and killed 10,000 people before they were overrun.

  5. Or, something that was never funny, and never will be, but if it goes on long enough:

‘It’s getting beyond a joke now’

  6. From a mechanics perspective,
Get in a mates car and its making a slight noise
    “This thing is fucked!”

    A few miles later

    The car then cuts out
    “It’s not well is it”

  7. “I’ve been better” is the appropriate way to communicate that you may not live to see the next pancake day.
