(WAND) – Ameren Illinois is sharing a natural gas safety reminder.
Ameren reminds customers of four words to remember, “Smell Gas, Leave Fast.”
Recognize the smell, a rotten egg odor. While the scene is often the most noticeable, other signs can include blowing dirt, dead vegetation, bubbling water or a hissing sound.
If you think there is a natural gas leak, leave the area fast, taking all people and pets with you. Avoid turning off light switches, opening windows or doors or using electronics. Then, call Ameren Illinois at 800-755-5000 or 911. Ameren responds to emergencies at no cost to you.
