There are lots of articles about how bad PiS is, but almost none that try to explain why they rule and why might rule more.
I answer. because the rest are the same idiots. And Poles still vote for two parties. regards
Because a bunch of old people love “Catholic values,” families like the 500+ program (which I don’t have much issue with, at least in principle), and the opposition’s only real platform is “PiS sucks, vote for us” (which, while PiS is terrible, is a pretty bad reason to vote for somebody).
All we are saying is give PiS a chance
Because
1. A percentage of the voters are religious fanatics and their sole more important issue is to not accept gay people, not to “murder unborn babies” and not to allow an “Islamic invasion”.
2. Another percentage of the voters love handouts and the rhetoric “I’m here for the farmer, the small-town worker, not the big city elite”. US Republican playbook. These voters are also watching mostly TVP and despire social progress, Western values, the EU, Germany etc.
3. A lot of voters are apathetic if something doesn’t touch them. They don’t care if PiS opresses women or LGBT people if they don’t belong to this group. They don’t care if PiS took over the courts. And if they don’t care about the general society, to them PiS is not different than PO, P2050, Lewica etc. They see them both as corrupt and inept.
1 and 2 are quite unique to Poland, in most countries religious people and small town/rural people are not enough to outvote the big cities, so their conservatism and hate towards the new and the different doesn’t matter in the national scale. Poland is more like USA and less than e.g. Spain or Germany.
The similarity of their name to “piss” makes headlines about them amusing somethings.
I just can’t help reading it a bit like “How come Poland is (and probably still will be) governed by piss?”
Voters gonna vote
I think that many people from other countries don’t realize what this constant crying about “buying votes” from Polish neo-liberals is about.
It’s about a social benefit for a family, 500 zł for a child a benefit akin to kindergeld in Germany. This is what’s prompting classist insults of being parasites and whatnot, a basic support for families and mind you every family gets it, no matter the income.

Surprisingly calling PIS voters “parasites” won’t make them vote for the opposition, who would’ve thought?
Thats a really good article though based on some of comments here seems like many people here commented without reading it or have hard time understanding what this aritcle says…
