WASHINGTON (TNND) — Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Thursday that the Trump administration would be sanctioning International Criminal Court judges who engaged in “illegitimate” actions against Israel.
“Today, the Trump Administration is sanctioning two International Criminal Court judges directly engaged in politicized and illegitimate actions against Israel,” Rubio wrote on X.
He said that the U.S. would push back against the ICC’s lawfare.
“The United States has been clear: we will continue to respond with significant and tangible consequences to protect against the ICC’s lawfare, abuse of power, and blatant disregard for the sovereignty of the U.S. and Israel,” Rubio’s post concluded.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the decision.
“Israel appreciates the decisive leadership and strong action of Secretary of State @SecRubio and the determination of the United States under the leadership of President @realDonaldTrump to confront the scourge of lawfare, which poses a serious threat to both our nations,” the office of the Prime Minister of Israel wrote on X.
At the beginning of this year, Democrats in the Senate blocked a bill to sanction the ICC for issuing an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
The ICC has attempted to pursue war crime cases against Israel for actions taken in the war in Gaza.
