Mick Clifford: Misuse of Dáil privilege in trans debate

  1. There’s a lot that’s misleading or simply wrong with this article, but probably the most significant issue is that O’Malley clearly wasn’t defamed.

If you look at her own objection to being taken out of context, what she said was that she has empathy for trans people (characterised in the context in which she was speaking as “autogynephiles” which many trans people find a deeply offensive concept) because it’s part of her job, but she insists that she is not asking anyone else to have empathy for them.

That’s entirely consistent with how her position was characterized in the Dáil, and if anything it’s actually worse since she basically admits she only has empathy for trans people because she’s paid to.

  2. >She has been branded as “anti-trans” and even labelled as somebody in favour of conversion therapy.

She has just been labelled as being in favour of trans conversion therapy? She didn’t argue in favour of trans conversion therapy being kept legal in the Irish Times?

She also believes in anti-trans pseudo-science like Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria and Autogynephilia. She says the teens as young as 13 she works with are porn addicted fetishists.

She also says trans people should be stopped from receiving trans healthcare if at all possible.

Her organisation Genspect purpose is to spread anti-trans misinformation, in particular to schools. Why is such a person selected to speak at a training conference to school principals about managing pupils gender issues in schools?
