> “No, no it’s not. Don’t fight me!” Culkin recently answered during an interview with Mythical Kitchen. “It’s based around Christmas, but if it were also St. Patrick’s Day, it would still work. But you couldn’t do ‘Home Alone’ on Memorial Day. It doesn’t work that way.”
> Culkin then quipped: “I’m the godfather of Christmas nowadays. My opinion has some sway in this argument.”
What part of “Now I have a machine gun ho – ho – ho” does he not get?
If it wasn’t Christmas there would be no party at Nakatomi so he’s factually wrong
‘Home alone’ also works if the family goes on a summer vacation to Disney World.
John McClane learns that it’s truly better to give death than to receive it.
By that logic Home Alone isn’t a Christmas movie either because it would still work if it was Thanksgiving
Maybe I’m not a purist, but if a movie takes place at Christmas, references Christmas several times, and is entirely buoyed by Christmas music and and an original score that uses Christmas song melodies throughout, it feels pretty Christmas-movie-like to me.
I think it’s so weird to dig in against it being a Christmas movie.
…… Yea but it wasn’t on St. Patrick’s day. It was during a Christmas party.
No one flys cross country for St. Patrick’s Day.
*Now I have a machine gun, top o’ the mornin’ to ye.*
Oh, yeah, there’d be no problem having an office Christmas party for St. Patrick’s Day. Makes total sense, *Macaulay.*
I remember a tweet that said something like “Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie because it takes place on Christmas. It’s a Christmas movie because it starts with an unwanted family obligation and spirals into a seemingly unending nightmare that you can’t escape from.”
The Fugitive is a St Patrick’s Day movie
It is a Wonderful Life would also work if George Bailey tried to kill himself on March 15.
His auntie IRL is Bonnie Bedelia (Holly McClane). Dude is proper Christmas royalty.
Die Hard is most definitely a Christmas movie, otherwise Christmas in Hollis wouldn’t be on the stereo.
Thank you Mr. Culkin! It’s not a Christmas movie, is a movie with Christmas in it.
I want to work for the company that throws big St. Patrick’s Day parties and isn’t a bar.
So tired of these “articles” that take one quote from someone else’s interview and make it their headline.
Pinch me, I’m Irish! Now I have a machine gun!
Then it would be a St. Patrick Day movie.
So would gremlins but it’s still the best Christmas movie.
Home Alone could be a summer vacation movie. What is his point?
I guess Home Alone is not a Christmas movie then. It would still work if the family left for summer vacation and left him home alone. 🤷🏻♂️
Nobody has elaborate company parties like that for St. Patrick’s day, nor do ex husbands cross the country to see ex wives for it.
People don’t typically fly across the country to visit their family for St. Patrick’s Day.
Ah yes, the totally normal company St. Patrick’s Day party.
Yeah, most offices totally have St. Patrick’s Day parties.
“Top of the morning to you now I have a machine gun.”
Who in the world has an office party for Saint Patrick’s Day?
Bad take, Kevin.
it’s definitely a time between thanksgiving and christmas movie
And the themes of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas would still work if it was set during Easter, except the Grinch would be stealing the Easter ham and Easter baskets instead. Get a grip, Kevin!
