  1. Can’t even spell their own name right in the application!

  2. Easy, lets not go nuts here. I don’t want to be roasted, worse still, a-ssaulted, but I love their grub! Right, I’m off, fair crisp outside today. G’luck.

  3. That’s grand stuff after they passed that bill/law yoke that allows corporations to sue the state if we as a state do something that impacts their profit margins.

    Fucking delightful

  4. Popcorn and Peanuts vs the movement of 10s of thousands of people a day.

  5. In fairness, it’s going to drastically affect their business.

The fact that they actually have to object because a proper plan has not been in place for the compulsory purchase order of an active business is really the problem.

If the state is going to shut down an active business or drastically impinge its activities, it needs to be ironed out in advance.

  6. Ok, well a portion of their land is taken away, and they’re not happy with the mitigation efforts. Let them come and suggest what changes should be made, what can change to allow them to operate effectively and the luas to go ahead. It’s only fair, let them suggest changes, just saying no isn’t going to wash.

They need to come back with clear amendments for consideration, not blocking.

  7. U know what to do lads! Boycott all
Manhattan products until they cop the fuck on!

Well done to the journal for reporting on this! Need to highlight more of these clowns until they cop on

  8. They need to hire a PR firm. Their message isn’t crisp enough.

  9. So many headline options. Salty peanuts: Manhattan objects to Luas, Nuts could derail planned Luas line, Peanut company roasted over judicial review

  10. I swear to fuck I’m at my wits end with this shit. I’m fucking sick to death of this government making these piss poor decisions (reduction in funding, deprioritising public transport), I’m sick of this general anti-social, self centred attitude everyone and their mother seems to have taken up – be it private households or as we see here businesses. I’m pissed off that the government has not figured out a way to manage this NIMBY shit – instead they seem intent on making it harder for poor people to have their voices heard in the planning system (despite what you all may think), it’s now based on being able to afford to complain rather than your complaint being valid.

I have no idea why they haven’t improved rules around public consultation – you might all be having palpitations about this but both can be true; there is excessive NIMBYism (esp if you can afford JR) and participation in the planning system is critical to ensuring social good is achieved in any development.

If they get this right then issues can be resolved at the start, or people are told to get fucked, whatever it is. But this whole business of no one having any reassurance or clarity on whether something is going ahead is shit for the public, it’s shit for businesses and yes it’s shit for developers. No one has certainty.

I have never felt so pessimistic about the future as I do now. We are a selfish, self-centred lot and we have the government we deserve, in that case.

  11. Our local hurling and camogie club has had an application for new grounds turned down after a person living beside the proposed development site cited the concerns over the dangers floodlights would pose to passing traffic.

  12. I thought the railway order had already been passed months ago??

  13. People suggesting a boycott because they stopped a train is peak r/ireland.

  14. Too many interests trying to overcome progress in this country

  15. Just about to stock up on them before Xmas, glad I saw the article earlier, that’s another crowd on the avoid list

  16. I thnk this would be a good opportunity to start a boycott that is worthwhile for a change.
