Updated numbers on Canada’s flu cases expected soon
Hello, I’m a senior writer and editor with CBC’s live pages team.
We’re expecting the latest federal numbers on influenza rates across the country this afternoon from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
It comes as an early start to Canada’s flu season has seen health-care facilities across the country face surging admissions.
So far, the highest number of flu detections country-wide have been among children and youth under the age of 19 — putting strain on some children’s hospitals. But health-care experts also warn the worst may be yet to come as influenza spreads through all age groups, with more and more outbreaks recently reported in long-term care homes and other facilities housing high-risk seniors.
We’ll be following the reaction to today’s stats on this page.
We also want to hear from you. Send any questions you might have about this year’s flu season to ask@cbc.ca and we’ll do our best to answer them.
