  1. This is normal brown cheese which we eat:) Just looks different cause it is for export

  2. To answer in regards to the previous post, yes, this is “popular” in the sense that it’s eaten as any other bread topping. It’s really good on waffles too (our kind, not the thick Belgian kind. Also, the better the bread and butter, the better this goes with. Alternatively you can eat it with jams, like strawberry or raspberry.

  3. Yes, they are both legit.

The red one is what every Norwegian child grew up on and I and many grownups eat daily. It is a mix of cows and goats cheese, so it is milder in taste.

The blue one is the traditional 100 percent goats cheese and has a much stronger taste. It is closer to the original brown cheese as it was originally made.

And yes, we love this stuff on a slice of bread with some real butter and thin a few thin slices of the brown cheese on it (open faced sandwich) or on a Wasa knekkebrød (rye crispbread).

  4. I’m an American and I’m so glad my Norwegian elders insisted on finding Norwegian bakeries and specialty shops when I was a young kid. I love gjetost, I can eat thick pieces with nothing else. It’s extremely expensive to order by mail now and I don’t have anywhere near me that sells it. They only call it caramel cheese to appeal to american tastes, it’s a cultural staple, not a trend.

  5. Gudbrandsdalsost og Ekte Geitost. Our local supermarkets aren’t carrying either this season, but both are expected at the front door before the end of the day. We ordered from a New York cheesemonger at an eye-watering price, but it just isn’t Christmas without brunost.

  6. I bought the red one and tucked it away in the refrigerator so I can throw it in my husband’s stocking for Christmas to bring up good memories from our Norway trip in September 😊 I’m glad to see it is on par with what we may have had while visiting!

  7. I am surprised they sell the goat cheese. I dont have the numebers for norway, but my feeling from talking to people and seeing their fridge is that the classic one and the even lighter only cowsmilk one together are like 100x as popular as the pure goat cheese one. I rarely see people eating it as it has such a strong taste.

  8. I just brought 2 kilos of this stuff back from Norway -one of each, but Tine brand.

  9. Holy shit. When I saw the picture I thought at the beginning those were sanitary pad packages for women.

  10. Would you look at that, as a Norwegian I had no idea Tine did this😅

  11. Omg I’m DROOLING right now! I’ll have to go and get some tomorrow 😭
