Yet suspiciously any thread on the UK making basic defence preparations gets flooded by people saying we have nothing to fear and that this country isn’t worth defending.

Well the government has pushed back publishing the Defence Investment Plan till next year – it was due in the Autumn – so they don’t seem to be in any great hurry to fix the capability gaps that our armed forces have.
In all the time the UK has been invaded by sea. It was the 1060s the last time any effort was made and successful.
Its more likely that any fight on “British soil” would be in the North Sea against whats left of the Russian navy

Russia couldn’t invade its neighbour using decades old technology to defend itself. The UK has vastly more capable equipment.
The issue is cold war media portrayed the Russians/soviets as hugely advanced and powerful, which the Russians then leant into to inflate its impact. The Russians have nothing. Thuer defence spending has been so so low for decades to support just it’s nuclear arms let alone anything else, and thats before the huge, systematic corruption is taken into account!
The only parts of Russia we need to fear us propaganda destabilising our societies and cyber attacks, as they’re very capable! They’ve been found to literally be interfering with elections and democracy a lot in the last decade, and that nore isn’t being done to stop it is utterly terrifying!

Britain is preparing for sabotage attacks on infrastructure. The power grid, the road networks, telecommunications, the NHS, payment systems. Those sort of attacks would disable an advanced modern country. Sabotage an undersea power line or Internet cable and see just how vulnerable we are

Lots of ppl ITT think any ‘attack’ will be some kind of mass mobilisation & invasion.
The UK has been under psychological & sociological attack for at least the last decade, and any physical assault won’t be a land invasion, it will be targeted attacks on critical infrastructure which degrade the ability of the country to deliver basic services to the people, and then just sit back & watch things fall apart.

Oh no!! We should significantly raise taxes and remove rights of protest, limit speech, cut any sort of subsidies or tax benefits for the middle class for citizens and increases tax allowances for the wealthy and politician .. and do it quickly before we’re attacked.
