Syrian who killed Americans was part of security forces, interior ministry says • FRANCE 24

The attack took place close to the historic Palmira region in Syria. According to the Pentagon, its targets were a group of soldiers conducting an ongoing counterterrorism operation in the area. >> In reaction, US President Donald Trump has vowed to act. >> Syria, by the way, was fighting along with us. The president, the new president of Syria is, as they told me, and I I’m not surprised. He’s devastated by what happened. This was an ISIS attack on us and Syria. >> Mr. President, will the US retaliate against ISIS? >> Yeah, really. >> A Syrian official later said that the lone gunman was part of the country’s internal security force. When asked, the Pentagon did not respond to the question, but stated that the attack took place in an area where the Syrian president does not have control. Washington had no diplomatic relations with Damascus under former head of state Bashar al-Assad, but the countries have grown closer under Ahmed al-Sharah, who met with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in September. The country joined the international coalition fighting against the Islamic State last month, further warming relations with Western nations. The shooting on US soldiers was the first of such magnitude since Al-Shar came to power a little over a year ago. So,

Syria’s interior ministry said Sunday the gunman who killed three Americans in the central Palmyra region the previous day was a member of the security forces who was to have been fired for extremism. Two US troops and a civilian interpreter died in what the Syrian government described as a “terrorist attack” on Saturday, while Washington said it had been carried out by an Islamic State group (IS) militant who was then killed.

  1. Syria has been embroiled in a brutal civil war for over a decade now. Getting involved in Syria is not a good idea.

  2. Our hearts break for victims of violence. We condemn violence of all kinds and we pray for and seek peace. We hope for a better day when all people can live confidently that they will not suffer from violence. God bless us all.

  3. Lmao Yankees are so silly. 'This was so staged', 'Staged 100%', what would the Syrian government gain from attacking the largest country backing them, and one of the only real counterweights to Israel and Russia? It's in the current Syrian government's best interest to try to keep the US on side, hence the cooperation we've seen including the government being transparent that the soldier was a member of the security forces. It'd be one thing if there was evidence the Syrian government knew this attack would happen or helped plan for it to occur, but without evidence it's mere speculation.

  4. CIA/Mossad set up both sides. Usual playbook as those of us have learned over the past few decades. The problem with this play is hundreds and thousands of innocent people are killed. Thousands of our troops killed thinking they are fighting the good fight. Those that survive learn of the lies many years later . Then the fight with VA for help takes years of being denied benefits, suffering appeal after appeal. Wars are profitable for governments, poverty for the people . Prayers for the fallen and their families❤️🙏🪽
