The coast guard in Crete conducted two separate migrant rescue operations during the night, rescuing 62 people from the sea.
The first operation took place 45 nautical miles southeast of Kali Limenes, where a patrol vessel located a dinghy carrying 27 migrants. Among those identified were women and an infant. The group is expected to be transferred later in the day to a temporary shelter in Iraklio.
Shortly afterward, a second incident was recorded 2.5 nautical miles southeast of Psari Forada. A boat carrying 35 migrants was spotted and intercepted by a coast guard vessel, which safely transported them to Ierapetra.
On Friday, a total of 545 migrants were rescued from a boat that sent a distress signal off Gavdos island.
