Martin Goodman, spirit animal to dads, FND must be one of the best British comedies of the last 20 years and it couldn’t work without him; and Anatoly Dyatlov here to silently judge you.

  1. He’d be tucking into a lovely bit of squirrel, as we speak.

  2. I’ve only just started watching FND! Missed it when it first came out

  3. Much missed, an incredible actor. And Martin Goodman is a legendary creation. Love that we at least have his legacy to enjoy.

  4. Just started rewatching yesterday through a reaction channel on YouTube. He’s so good. Rip.

  5. If people haven’t seen No Offence, the Channel 4 series he was in, get on it immediately!

  6. I keep seeing him in old episodes of Vera, a very different role to FND, never once mentions squirrels

  7. I say “shit on iiiittt” almost daily in place of for fucks sake.

Shame only like 1 out of 10 people get the reference

  8. The only Bond villain of the recent era to get away with it too

  9. Since watching that shit on it has become my go to term for things going wrong. I’m boiling.

  10. Shit on it!

And I’m glad you included Chernobyl because his performance in that was brilliant, too.

  11. I always forget he played Dyatlov. My brain refuses to recognise him here

  12. I started watching FND for Tamsin and Mark but damn if Martin didn’t become the ongoing highlight in every episode.

  13. I watched Chernobyl before I had ever seen FND, so it was really weird to see him going from a bitter, short-tempered, unlikeable prick, to a not-quite-right-in-the-head, bumbling, inadvertently hilarious middle-aged dad. I imagine seeing him as Anatoli Dyatlov *after* coming to know him as Martin Goodman would be equal parts impressive, in terms of his acting range, and disorienting to say the least.

He did a great job in Chernobyl but his performance in FND will always stick with me, he really brought life and such a ridiculous energy into Martin’s character. I think we all would have loved to have seen more of his amazing capability

  14. RIP- it was really sad that he passed away only a few months after Rosalind Knight (Horrible Grandma) and Frances Cuka (Jackie’s mother). They all passed within a year of the final episode.

  15. It’s my birthday today – I never realised we shared a birthday! 😁😭

  16. His role as Anatoly Dyatlov was magnificent. A true talent across genres.

  17. Amazing actor who was just getting into his stride with TV and film roles. We were robbed of a genuine talent.

  18. Good day to go out and buy a fax machine so you don’t have to read everything off a bloody screen

  19. Do we need reminding. I’ll watch Friday night dinner now and raise my brew to him. What a man.
