[The Guardian] Never Be Honest in Hollywood- Even if You’re Quentin Tarantino: Insulting Paul Dano is like kicking a bunny at a birthday party. Why would you hate that guy? You’re picking on the quiet accountant who brings brownies for everyone at work. He looks like the counselor at a summer camp

  1. It’s insane to me someone got paid to write this unfunny and utterly pointless piece. That’s real column inches stolen from an actual story.

  2. Nah, Tarantino has been honest without getting much flak before.

His attack on Dano was both petty and completely off even if he sincerely believes it. Weakest male actor in the whole SAG? No way does QT honestly believe that. It just came across as personal and unnecessary like a child lashing out over not getting a big enough birthday present.

  3. It’s a ploy. He’s trying to goad Paul dano into becoming the seething raging and burning actor that Quentin knows he has hidden deep inside. This dano would act circles around Daniel Day Lewis with the intensity of a thousand Samuel Ls and a sultry charisma that George Clooney could only wish to possess.

This is Quentin’s Mr. Glass moment.

  4. He’s not just giving opinions. He’s being an asshole on purpose

  5. At this point I doubt he’s ever going to make his 10th film.

  6. And Matthew Lillard for fucks sake. Apparently there is some disconnect between Hollywood and the general public’s appreciation for his utter dominance in the late 90s.

  7. Man, does the author of this nonsense think that Dano is gonna read it and call him up and want to be best friends or something?

  8. Who gives a shit who or what Tarantino likes. Personally, I think Tarantino is talented yes but overrated. I haven’t seen a film of his in quite some time that I actually liked. He’s just another mouthy, arrogant Hollywood prick. Really easy to ignore when you stop worshipping celebs

  9. Everyone’s so desperate for clout now they’ll take a man’s opinion of a movie and turn it into a crusade, like him or not he’s got every right to say his piece

  10. The funny thing is that Paul Dano is absolutely excellent.

  11. I didn’t even know who Paul Dano was before all of this, and I’ve seen him in several different shows and movies.

  12. Dani has a “punch me in the face” look about him. Is it any wonder that people want to hit him?

  13. I finally get why every response from a celebrity is always so bland and impersonal. The second someone actually says what’s on their mind and gives a frank answer, whether people like it or not, they get absolutely torched by the morality police. Was it blunt and unpleasant? Yeah, it was. But at least it’s a change from the other 40,000 people from this industry claiming everyone is perfect and that it’s such an honor to be associated with such talented individuals. At this point, they might as well just have ChatGPT churn out the most diplomatic responses possible since that seems to be what people actually want.

  14. The guardian is a shitrag publication. It wants to be the NY Post but isn’t actually funny or smart in its trolling like the Post.

  15. “Don’t hate on Paul Dano, the poor lad tries his best.” vibes lmao

  16. We’re all falling for some viral marketing ploy. Expect a trailer soon for Tarantino’s next film, starring Dano.

  17. Anyone else think he said all that crap to get more people to realize Kill Bill was returning to theaters for a limited run?

  18. I feel like this story ran its course like…a day or so after it was revealed

  19. Not only that, he has some incredible performances. Dude is so under utilized.

  20. My problem with this isn’t the fact that Tarantino criticized Dano’s acting, it’s that he called the character a weakling, which was the entire point!

I also rewatched some of the movies he listed on his top 20 list and they were straight up bad.

Unstoppable? Really? That isn’t even the best train themed Denzel Washington movie, nevermind one of the best movies of the past 20 years.

  21. I feel the same about him. I loved Daniel day Lewis in there will be blood and thought Dano ruined an otherwise A+ movie. Since that moment I was extremely anti-dano

  22. Just stick to the talking points that everyone else does. “So talented, so talented, unbelievably talented… “

  23. I love Tarantino’s films, he is easily a top 3 director for me. But it’s been pretty well established for a while that he’s at least a bit of a knobhead. Can we just forget this bullshit now, who honestly cares THIS much? I don’t think even Paul Dano is this bothered.

  24. Sigh… I beg everyone to not read too much into it. Tarantino talked shit and people defended Dano. Thats it. There wasn’t even a greater point being made. And unlike most of his movie opinions, what said was easily arguable.

Sometimes talking shit is talking shit. Reading meaning into thoughtless takes just makes you sound stupid.

  25. Who gives a shit. I had to look up Dano, never seen anything with him in it. I love Tarantino but who cares what he thinks?

  26. I’m guessing because a reporter asked and quentin.Tarantino isn’t gonna lie.He just tells how he feels, and there is a report from years ago or an interview where he literally states that I believe he says it like this.I’m tired of all the fucking bullshit.Okay.All the bullshit that comes from talent, none of them willing to say what they mean, how do I know who you are?How do I know what you’re capable of as an actor if you can’t even be yourself in an interview.. that is big time, paraphrasing.I think it came out before kill bill.So that’s a torn up indirect quote. But the tone of it is there just be truthful when someone asks you a question in real life..
He’s a fucking asshole, and he did in fact, pick on somebody. He really shouldn’t have. But that kind of answer is why at least

  27. This reminds me of the time a couple kids were messing with me in high school. I was just ignoring them until my teacher came over, hugs me, and started telling them off about how they should be more quiet and nice like me. Which made the entire class look at me like I was a teacher’s pet and I never felt more ostracized. I understand her intentions but it made the situation way worse and got way more people involved than I had cared.

  28. I’ll be honest here, I am convinced most opinion writers have some sort of personality disorder.
