No, Orthodox Christianity isn’t the “state religion”. As this paragraph mentioned, it’s clearly recognised as the “dominant religion”. Aka it’s what the majority follows. There’s a big difference between those two. Greece is, at least on paper, a secular country.

This Wikipedia article was always so strange to me. It very specifically states that Greece recognizes orthodoxy as the dominant religion, and somehow claims that this makes it an official state religion (which is very much not the case).
Meanwhile it also mentions how the constitutions of countries like Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, etc also have special provisions acknowledging the dominance and importance of their respective religions in their societies (in some cases like Italy even giving them special privileges!), yet none of these countries are included in the “has state religion” category.
If you are going to claim Greece has a state religion then all of those other countries have too.

Yes this is bad don’t get me wrong, but Norway, Denmark, Iceland also have a state religion and in terms of the population they have one of the highest atheist population rates in the world and have also one of the most secular institutions too. So this might not be saying a lot.
I mean some people also get shocked when they find out that UK or Canada or Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Spain and Norway have a monarchy. Yet these are at the same time one of the most democratic countries in the world. Even if it was recognized as state religion, the boundaries are well set. The UK being a Monarchy doesnt prevent them from being a democracy

It makes total sense when taking i to account that Greece is a continuation of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium) and thus has that same role when it comes to those ancient institutions like the Orthodox Church.
Especially qhen also considering the religious affiliation of the population has remained ultra majority Greek orthodox and also the role of the church outside of Greece for Greek populations living abroad which not many talk about.
I see no issue with it and it does come with some benefits and some obligations/negatives.
Its probably the one thing that this sub is obsessed with that the average person in Greece and the supermajority of the population would never consider it an issue.
For other historical reasons Greece has voluntary sharia law in Thrace for the muslim minority as well, and i dont think thats a problem either (since its voluntary, just like the orthodox stuff are, either voluntary or you can opt out).

Δεν θα μπω στον κοπω να γραψω στα αγγλικα, περα απο το τι λεει το συνταγμα, το Ελληνικο κρατος σιγουρα βαζει τον χριστιανισμο πανω απο ολα και τον προωθει. Οπως εχει γραψει καποιος απο κατω, το Ελληνικο κρατος ειναι μπλεγμενο σε ενα φαυλο κυκλο οπου απο την μια υποτιθεται οτι ειμαστε συγχρονο κρατος με διαχωρισμου κρατους και εκκλησιας και απο την αλλη εχουμε τις εικονες του Χριστου στα σχολεια, τις πρωινες προσευχες και τα θρησκευτικα στο σχολειο που ουσιαστικα ειναι γνησια ορθοδοξη προπαγανδα με την κανονικη εννοια της λεξεις, ιδιαιτερα στο Δημοτικο. Γενικα μπορεις να πεις οτι εχει γινει διαχωρισμος κρατους και εκκλησιας, αλλα δεν εχει γινει διαχωρισμος κρατους και θρησκειας. Οποιος ειναι απο αυτους τους “φιλελευθερους” τυπου Μπογδανου απο την μια υπερ του διαχωρισμου και απο την αλλη θιγονται οταν καποιος μιλαει για τις εικονες και τις προσευχες στα σχολεια επειδη ειναι “η πολιτισμικη μας παραδοση” sorry αλλα πρεπει να φυγουν και αυτα αμα θελετε 100% διαχωρισμο.
