Bulgaria’s Kozloduy nuclear power plant will shut down its 1,000 megawatt Unit 6 on Sunday, one day before its scheduled closure over a turbine-related technical problem, after a glitch was found at a similar type of device, BTA news agency reported.
Kozloduy said on Friday it would shut down its unit on Monday to replace a protective membrane device on the turbine steam separator. But on Saturday another device was detected malfunctioning.
The plant said there has been no release of radioactive or other pollutants into the environment and no risk to human safety, BTA reported. After the membranes on the turbine are replaced and problems fixed, the unit will go back online, the agency quoted the plant as saying.
