As of now, the most likely politicial party to win the next elections – SDP – is driving this Robin Hood populistic narrative about fairer economical policies.
This promise is a huge lie. Regardless of the party who’s ruling the next government body, Finland has to continue to heavily cut its social programs. We’ve already witnessed this marrative break down under Ilmari Nurminen, who had to continue the cuts in Tampere as the new mayor.
Finland has reached a boiling point, in which another shock to its economy wouldn’t be resolved by regular bank financing, but by the IMF stepping in. IMF financing would mean that the Finnish economic policies would be decided by IMF, as was the case with Ireland, Greece and Portugal after the Eurocrisis.
The EU and the IMF already advise Finland on economic policy, and the government has largely aligned itself with the IMF’s strategy.

IMF taking over Finland would probably be the best case scenario at the moment.
tbh, I am already prepared of becoming homeless soon. I only get 850€ in a month to live. I can pay rent and a bit of food.
are you sure you want to have this dance? lest we forget, the current minister for domestic affairs is about to introduce a cut that will permit the the existence of slapp lawsuits.
first stones and all that.
I doubt cutting ALL welfare would help much atp
Well, there is always the final solution for us poor folks. They can’t come after our meager income if we don’t need shelter or food ever again.
Well. The austerity measures of current govt have stymied private sector consumption and investment, and if there is no growth in the economy, the bills will have to be covered on borrowed money. When Spain fell into deep recession after the events 2008, the Spanish govt did something bold: they decided to ignore EU norms, and issue deficient budgets. It worked to stabilize the economy, and especially push down the dismal unemployment figures of the time. Sure, there is a bill left to pay and it will take time.
The bottom line is that the Keynesian principle has proven to work. You can’t cut down food supply if you are already starving. The problem with Orpo’s govt is that they only care about govt debt, and pay no concern to the welfare of their voters. In Spain it took roughly 7 years to get over the hill, which means that there would have to be two consequent Keynesian cabinets to produce a lasting solution. If we can keep KOK out of cabinet for two consecutive parliamentary elections, we’ll be OK.
I’m prepared personally and past caring about the mass of idiots that have voted for same clowning for last 20-30 years. There’s nothing new or surprising to this, just complete denial to make any necessary reforms and focus on developing actual productive work, cost reductions, exports, research etc. The country needs a healthy dose of greed, business making and setting priorities right.
But it seems most of the time attention is focused on meaningless nonsense such as pictures online or irrelevant things happening elsewhere.
Finland should be a part of the USA. Problem solved
More cuts don’t don’t anything. Only deepen the whole. The economy doesn’t grow with cuts. Ppl confidence doesn’t increase.
People don’t really understand how deep in shit we are.
Doing worse cuts and tinkering with taxation than current gov.. well possible in theory, but I doubt anyone manages, unless similar composition would carry to next term.
Are you telling me we are having bad economy as those south countries?
The government aligns with proposed strategy only as far as it benefits their voters and the rich. They love cutting from public services and proposing action, that leads to their friends’ private companies getting a larger cut of the business. Meanwhile nothing really improves, rich get richer and the quality of the services overall just get weaker while all the while generally costing more to provide than they did in the past.
The clueless buffoons have the wheel and are doing nothing that will fix the situation, pretty much none of the promises they made have been kept or are on track to be kept. The ones who voted these people into power, against their own interest due to being misinformed or believing bs, hopefully get to pay the price before anyone else.
