The journal ‘Science’ criticizes Trump’s anti-renewable energy policy: ‘The US is failing to benefit from its own innovations’. Renewable energy is now the world’s leading source of electricity. China has become the leading manufacturer while the US is betting on an energy model stuck in the past.

  1. It’s not long before the oil companies get mad at Trump for low crude prices.

  2. GOP = a fossil fuel lobbying firm masquerading as a political party

  3. Quick, burn more coal to block out the sun to counter china

  4. In before

    – scientists are all libs and they’re saying this because they hate Trump (false)

    – “at least i have freedom of speech in America” (false)

    – China bad because building new coal plants (true, but a bad argument)

  5. The manufacturing ship sailed a long time ago. The real issue nobody talks about in these high-level policy debates is the soft cost. We have the tech, but we wrap it in six months of permitting delays, interconnection queues, and fragmented local codes. You can have the best innovation on earth, but if the local utility can stonewall the project for arbitrary reasons, the innovation doesn’t matter. That friction is what kills us, not just the factory location.

  6. Reminds me of what Bill Nye said at the end of his debate with Kent Ham:

I just want to close by reminding everybody what’s at stake here; if we abandon all that we’ve learned, our ancestors what they’ve learned about nature and our place in it, if we abandon the process by which we know it; if we askew; if we let go of everything that people have learned before us; if we stop driving forward, stop looking for the next answer to the next question, we in the United States will be out competed by other countries, other economies. That would be ok I guess but I was born here I’m a patriot, and so we have to embrace science education. To the voters and tax payers that are watching please keep that in mind, we have to keep science education in science and science classes.

  7. If American military and foreign policy planners aren’t literally planning on using climate crisis as basically a massive weapon of mass destruction to hold on to hegemony, I don’t really understand the policy.

China and India have lots of population and neighbors that make them far more vulnerable to many climate crises… but even if that is the plan, we should at least plan to have power during this whole future period of time.

  8. one of the biggest unforced errors of this administration.

    electricity prices are going up

  9. Nobody can tell Fathead that he’s not the smartest most gifted boy. He bankrupted casinos, that’s how smart he is. He knows everything. Just ask him, he’ll tell you.

  10. There is money to be made, and the current administration is failing.

Are we wasting valuable resources right now? Yes. Is it possible for the US to still make the transition? Also yes.

Newsom at COP25 claimed that, outside of China, California was the top global installer of battery storage and is currently supplying 2/3 of its energy, 90% of the time, through clean energy. That doesn’t sound like total abandonment.

Who is really gonna pay the price are the red states that Biden intentionally targeted with clean energy investments in the hopes that it would make it politically difficult to cancel.

He underestimated red states’ willingness to hurt their own people.

Also, the offshore wind industry is gonna take a serious hit… though the courts may continue to rule that the arbitrary targeting of wind is unlawful.

Frankly, at this point, I don’t care who takes the lead. If China is a leader in fighting climate change, so be it; we all benefit from a clean energy future.

  11. well, yeah. big oil keeps things like this from happening for a reason.

  12. Are you surprised the same person who put RFK, Jr, in charge of “the health” ignores science? Same person who says “climate change is a hoax”? Same guy who says “windmills cause cancer”? Yeah, I’m not surprised.

  13. It’s almost as if Trump were an agent of a foreign power, purposely weakening America…

  14. Well Krasnov is the US racist uncle that believes the country was better when you could beat your wife and kids industry was dirty enough to separate the classes visually.  So this strategy tracks.
