New Zealand sealed the series 2-0
What’s the story
New Zealand secured a resounding victory over the West Indies in the third and final Test match by a massive margin of 323 runs.
The win was largely due to an impressive bowling performance on the final day in Mt Maunganui.
The West Indies, chasing a daunting target of 462 runs, were bundled out for just 138 runs.
The likes of Tom Latham, Devon Conway, and Jacob Duffy were NZ’s key performers as the hosts sealed the series 2-0.
West Indies falter in final innings
The West Indies started their final innings on a positive note, with openers Brandon King and John Campbell seeing off the first hour without any damage.
However, things took a turn for the worse as they lost five wickets in just 11 runs and 10 overs.
Ajaz Patel was instrumental in this collapse, dismissing first-innings centurion Kavem Hodge after just nine balls.
Jacob Duffy’s 5-wicket haul seals the victory
Jacob Duffy was the star of New Zealand’s bowling attack, picking up five wickets and ending with match figures of nine for 120.
His unplayable spells left the West Indies batsmen in tatters.
Ajaz Patel also contributed with three wickets for just 23 runs from 32 overs.
Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra chipped in with one wicket each to complete the rout.
New Zealand’s batting dominance in the match
The match also saw a stellar batting display from New Zealand.
Devon Conway and Tom Latham put up a record-breaking partnership in the first innings, leading to New Zealand’s declaration at 306-2 on day four.
This was after they had bowled out the West Indies for 420 runs in reply to their first-innings total of 575-8.
Conway and Latham’s historic partnership
Conway, who scored 227 in the first innings, followed it up with a century (exactly 100) in the second.
He became only the 10th player and first New Zealander to score a double-century and century in the same Test.
Latham also had a stellar outing with scores of 137 in the first innings and an unbeaten 101 in the second.
