Or stop giving tax cuts and dodgy contracts to your mates
To ease cost of living.
Unless you are one of those 90,000
/r/civilservice is a very unhappy place, not just right now. Morale has been low for years, almost as bad as the subreddit for teachers.
This is ridiculous.
The Civil Service is already stretched thin dealing with the disasters of Brexit, the Rwanda immigration policy and dealing with the extreme waiting times and overflow in the NHS from COVID and the rascal wants to cut them down…
And Ill bet the tax cuts will be mostly targeting at upper middle class and the rich in a bid to regain support in the blue wall of the South as well as be coherent with the ineffectual and generally disprovable theory of Trickle down Economics, which will do nothing but increase inequalities.
This is on top of having already increased taxes on working age people through NI increases and refusing to pull down the energy cap to a more manageable rate (France only raised it by 5% whereas we’re nearing 50%) as well as refusing to tax the massive profits and bonuses that energy companies are racking in and wasting billions of pounds during COVID on sending contracts to mates and Tory donors, meanwhile also letting billions go in furlough and COVID tax fraud, without doing much to try to recoup it.
How about we cut the MP pay and expenses. MPs have had multiple pay rises over the last few years and MPs had a huge expense payment to upgrade for WFH.
We can then close down the wine cellar in Parliament, stop spending tax payer’s money getting MPs drunk so they can miss votes because they’re watching porn.
Blame cost of living, fire civil servants as scapegoats, then blame the civil service for being too slow, then privatise said civil service to your mates and donors at knock down prices..
Tories are experts in stealing.
Ease cost of living crisis, by sacking 90,000 people… what the fuck. These fucking ghouls. Do a one off windfall tax for energy companies and scrap or lower the NI tax increase. Don’t make 90,000 people redundant when times are already tough, fucking hell.
How does sacking 90,000 people ease the cost. Just hike up corpo tax and windfall the energy companies.
> Johnson ordered ministers to return civil servant numbers to those of 2016 in the coming years, with staffing having increased by almost 25% to 475,000 full-time equivalent jobs.
Increasing staff by 25% in 5 years is a pretty epic rise by the Tories. I assume none of those permanent roles are covid response, which leaves a big question when it comes to what extra work has been generated since 2016.
Anything but taxing his mates.
Ahh yes that’ll save the govt money 90,000 more unemployed people with no disposable income that’s clearly best for the country …
Didn’t that wanker just sign a bit of paper that required 30,000 new people to be employed on the borders to check customs? I think he did. Those Brexit dividends!
Now the Reese Mogg bullshit makes sense. Way to engineer consent from your fuckwit voters.
You see, they’re all so lazy, doing no work, that we can easily cut the jobs.
Pretty sure you lot have thrown money away without the help of the civil service.
Shrinking the state has been the Conservative agenda since 2010, it always ends up costing people more of course.
For a government so consistently trying to prove they aren’t tone deaf to the situation, they really aren’t doing very well
At this point, we should call Boris Johnson for what he is–a wrecker. At the risk of sounding a bit crazy, this looks to me a bit like a pre-emptive spoiling attack to effectively disrupt the civil service so that should the Conservatives lose the next general election (which would be quite a tall order given the size of their current majority) then the successor party will have a much harder time implementing policy and improving the Brexit situation. After all, this policy likely wouldn’t be implemented until just prior to an election, it’ll take time to decide who they feel should stay and who should go.
Maybe I’m being a little bit too conspiratorial for 6AM on a Friday morning though….
I can’t comprehend how sacking 90,000 people eases the cost of living? Pay these people a fat redundancy, move them to benefits and then we have more money available? Nonsense
Plus, 90,000 peoples wages divided by 70m people ain’t much
So we can expect strikes that debilitate the entire country.
No doubt revenge for ignoring the Reese-Mogg cunt and his calls for them to stop WFH.
Billions wasted on Track and Trace, PPE, train contracts etc and all his blustering buffoon can do is to sack 90,000 people who will contribute far more than any of these entitled Tory wankers in government.
Nothing says “help your citizens with the cost of living” like putting them out of their jobs. Your income isn’t *technically* being squeezed if you don’t have one, I suppose.
What a Muppet.
There are 67.2 million people in the UK.
How would freeing up the salary of 90,000 people even be a drop in the ocean for everyone else?
The best way out of poverty is work, says the clown as he puts 90,000 people on benefits.
How the hell will…
I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t expect logic from an emotionally driven conservative.
If they wanted to save money they’d quit their catastrophically expensive outsourcing handjob fixation.
They don’t want to save money, they want to cause poor department performance, allowing them to outsource it. No government department ever paid for a redecoration, but Capita would be happy to decorate whatever Boris wants, if he’ll just sign right here…
Outsourcing costs taxpayer money we don’t need to spend. Get rid of the tax and spend Tories before they have to jack taxes on something else. They came for your NI, what will they come for next?
They can never just do something sensible can they? Tax corporations? Nahhh. Windfall tax then? Nope. Get the rich tax dodging types to pay their fair share? Lol. No. Let’s sack 90,000 people!!
What a bunch of absolute cunts.
The saving of £3.5bn will be cancelled out when these roles get outsourced to a useless corp like Capita for almost double the cost.
As a civil servant, fuck this. My pay has been frozen for years, so with inflation I’m actively taking a pay cut already. We are desperately understaffed in every possible area of my department.
To put 90,000 into perspective that’s basically sacking the entirety of DWP.
Enormous irreplaceable loss of expertise: Check.
Private contractors who will charge 3-4 times more: Check.
Corrupt contracts for the “right people”: Ding ding ding.
