Holiday bookings to the Balearics have grown by 7.1% over the past week compared to the previous week and by 27.4% compared to the same period last year, according to data published on Monday by the booking platform Travelgate. The Balearics are the sixth most popular destination in Spain in the last seven days, with 6.7% of bookings, behind Catalonia (20.3%), Andalusia (17.8%), the Canary Islands (816.1%), Madrid (14.8%) and the Valencian Community (10.9%).

Some 34.1% of this week’s bookings nationwide were made more than three months in advance and 14.1% were made around two months in advance. Last-minute bookings (made the day before or on the day of travel) accounted for 12.4%. Of the bookings recorded, 53.2% were made by couples and half of travellers (50.2%) booked between 2 and 5 nights, according to Travelgate.

According to this data, domestic tourism predominates among those who have made reservations in the last seven days through Travelgate: Spaniards accounted for 46.5%, followed by the British with 20.3%, Germans with 4.6% and Americans with 3.7%. North American tourism to Spain has reached record-breaking levels in 2024 and 2025, with Americans becoming some of the country’s highest-spending visitors.

Visitor Growth: In 2024, Spain welcomed a record 4.3 million American tourists, a 38.7% increase from the previous year. Economic Impact: North American tourists are high-value spenders. In early 2025 alone, American travellers spent €4.9 billion, averaging €2,113 per person per trip—significantly higher than European averages.

Direct Flights: The surge is supported by expanded flight connections, including new direct routes from U.S. cities like New York, Boston, Miami, and Los Angeles to Spanish hubs like Palma, Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, and Malaga. Primary Drivers: Culture, food and cuisine, and nature remain the top draws for 70% of American prospects. Spiritual Tourism: A 2025 study found that 75% of American faith-motivated travellers perceive Spain as offering more meaningful spiritual experiences than the UK or US.
Visitor Profile: The typical American visitor is approximately 46 years old with an average income of $131,000, often staying in 4- and 5-star hotels.
