Norway is intensifying the training of Ukrainian troops on Polish soil, closer to the Ukrainian border, using the largest training camp at Jomsborg as the key venue.

In an interview with Ukrinform, the Commander-in-Chief of the Norwegian Armed Forces, Eirik Kristoffersen, described this.

“This is a deliberate attempt by Norway to train with Ukrainians closer to the border with Ukraine. We train them at many locations, including in Norway, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Germany, Romania, and in other countries. However, now we are trying to accumulate more hours of training in Poland, and therefore we have also established a logistics hub in Poland”

He noted that Norway currently does not have the capacity to organize training of Ukrainian troops within Ukraine.

“But in the meantime we are training Ukrainians as close to the border as possible”

– Kristoffersen

According to the expert, training in Poland serves as the start of broader cooperation between the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, and Poland to strengthen the Ukrainian army’s capabilities.

“But now I see an opportunity to move the training to Poland and develop it there better than we do elsewhere. We are expanding training on Polish territory today in order to be able to move them to Ukraine as soon as the situation allows us to do so”

– Commander-in-Chief of the Norwegian Armed Forces

In the context of these statements, European government and security circles emphasize maintaining support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression as a central priority for regional security.

Substantial steps by Norway and its regional partners underscore the aim of strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and creating a durable mechanism for collaboration among the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, and Central Europe.
