  1. Indonesia is clearing forests at a rapid pace with military assistance in one of its most biodiverse regions for a state-backed agricultural project, even as recent fatal floods have illustrated the dangers of deforestation.

Billed as a project to ensure the fourth most populous nation’s food and energy security, Indonesia is planning to cultivate rice and sugar on 3mn hectares in the eastern province of Papua. The area covers a mix of primary forests, grasslands, woodlands and wetlands.

  2. Utter madness. The human species has gone insane so alienated from mother nature that they destroy her.

  3. Here lemme show you how we would solve this issue: Indonesia will get food produced in excess by other countries, even western ones.

If our Earth Government was in place and in power there would be no need for further deforestation.

This and innovative, efficient, agricultural practices.

But hey, we can stay here and complain.

  5. Ever since Suharto took power of the country through a CIA backed campaign, the country’s natural resources have been capitalized at the expense of locals. And to this the day, we see the effects and lack of response by the government. Indonesian authorities are utterly corrupt, and will value deals at the expense of natural land and the local economy. Bali has been overrun with development, and the nearby island of Lombok is beginning to see their south Beaches get completely destroyed to make room for foreign investors.
