  1. Throw a few more billion at roads. That will solve it!

  2. Well, the government is working on it, delaying public transport and building more roads. I mean, that helped the last 50 years, no……./s

  3. Dublin City Council said they’d make traffic worse and succeeded.

  4. Shutting down roads in city centre didn’t help? Colour me shocked

  5. I remember when Dublin Bus’ motto was “moving with the city” – never told us that the city in question was Delhi…

  6. Also one of the worst cost benefit public transportation systems. Terrible quality, terrible planning, terrible execution but not shy on price.

  7. The report only surveyed 36 countries and seems to have excluded the likes of India, Egypt, Nigeria, and China.

  8. Don’t worry, our government has a genius plan to do absolutely the bare minimum. I hear Michael O’Leary thinks we need only throw “AI” at the problem.

And thank goodness we gave those Greens a good electoral bollicking eh? /s

  9. These problems can’t be solved over night you know!

I’m back home for Xmas this year and despite the general uptick in traffic around this time the traffic has definitely increased significantly in Dublin. I guess you guys know that but it’s been difficult to contend with as a tourist too.

  10. Utopia – A high speed rail link that connects Dublin to Louth, Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Carlow, Wexford and a SCMaglev service that does Dublin to Galway in 25 minutes. To compliment this you would have six underground lines in the capital.

Reality – Money is going to get spunked on weapons that will make fuck all difference if they were ever needed, which they won’t be.

The astroturfed campaign in Ireland to buy arms since the budgetary surpluses of 2022 onward has been a sight to behold.

“We need ships to fight the Russians”. Yeah, enjoy your four hour commute.

  11. Letting people work from home would fix this embarrassing issue 🤷.

  12. The M7 and M50 are totally clogged. I know what might help, lets cancel the dart that follows the M7 for 5 years……

  13. There is just no reason at all this should ever be the case but here we are…

  14. Just need to get rid of the slow buses etc and widen some of the roads to 2 lanes, that will get everything flowing nicely.

  15. Go on Facebook and people think Cyclists are the reason for this lol

  16. At least it’s not just in our heads. I’d estimate that congestion on the M50 and M4 takes about 10-15 extra hours from me per week.

I tried using public transport but it kept letting me down and often ended up taking the same amount of time or longer on some days.

  17. Yes the congestion is bad but are we really 11th in the world? How are we ranked above cities like Mumbai and Lagos??

  18. Worse than it sounds given the number of mega cities in that ranking – Dublin is pretty small by international standards.

  19. Well that settles it. I will have to quit driving and instead use our high speed rail and the underground to get to the office.

  20. Surprised Toronto isn’t on there. We have the busiest highway in the world over here. Takes me over an hour to drive 30km on roads waits 100km speed limits. They just mandated ppl back to the office all while the provincial government are taking an 81 day break.

  21. Think of the poor c02 because the government obviously doesn’t give a shit.

  22. We can do top 10! The tractors and taxis are doing their part to do it. LET’S GO!

  23. A major factor is Return To Office mandates (at least 2-3 days a week, but many companies went on 5 days a week in the office).

  24. The biggest issue is that nothing is done about it. They could build more off-road public transport (trains, dart, trams, etc) but it costs a lot of money. So they don’t.

Rising house prices push more and more people out of the city further and further and that means more people will commute.

  25. 1/3 of the entire country in one city.

All services, politics, money, transport etc centered. What did successive governments think would happen.

This also leads to delays in planning for development as there is so so much input.

Development is also slow because of this because how many it affects.

Decentralsie, build up new areas, take people out of a hive city, put services in other areas.

Unfortunately when the volume of population is in a single area this is where votes come from.

  26. Uou should see the city right now, all car parks are full in the inner city, lots of roads blocked as traffic stands still.. never seen it that bad! Who thought that few more luas lines could go a long way

  27. Working day should start when you get in the car. This has all really flared up since WFH was abandoned. The government needs to wake up and stop pandering to its cronyist lobbys(landlords and car industry). WFM expanded is the answer. Alternate days in work and home. More tax credits for using public transport and more investment in public transport. moving transportation(goods and services to night time shifts. All major roadworks shifting to nighttime workings. We are too small to be so car centric. Serious fines and jail time for car crashes especially by ones caused by DD and DD and the newest scourge of mobiles.

  28. What are you going to do about it? Rather than complain, moan, give out, any suggestions/ideas to make things better.

    1. Contact councillors, TDs, senators, local radio anyone. Set up some online pressure groups

    2. Would a new orbital road work?

3.Putt pressure on govt to invest, invest, invest NOW in big infrastructure projects, Metro, DART+, Luas etc all of them. NOW!!

    4.Invest in bus connect

    5.Incentivise people to car pool?

6.Use More school buses to get cars off road

7.Schools/3rd level to have more flexibility on start times

8.Tax incentives for employers to get people out of the office and back to WFH

    9. Active travel investment to target short snappy commutes, like school run, trip to the local shop, connect big places of employment, 3rd level etc

10.No road work projects from Halloween to mid-January!

    11. A national car free day in April and May, hopefully weather good, get people who can to ditch the car, and take public transport, car pool, cycle, walk, scoot to school and work. People might realise it is not so bad and might be willing to ditch the car more often!!

    12. Legislation (or Gulags) to stop pointless NIMBY protests against everything, everywhere, all the time
