
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 22: Ambassador of Malta to the State of Kuwait Prof. Dr. George A. Said-Zammit highlighted the “excellent” and strong bilateral relationship between Malta and Kuwait, encompassing political and humanitarian cooperation. The Ambassador affirmed the potential for expanding joint efforts, particularly in tourism, cultural exchange, and trade. He cited a recent tourism promotion event, in which several Kuwaiti tour operators and travel agents participated, as a successful example of this collaboration.
Ambassador Dr. Said-Zammit explained that Malta’s appeal to Kuwaiti tourists lies in its natural beauty, including its coastline and sea, historical sites, archaeological landmarks, and the cultural, linguistic, and historical ties between the two countries. Feedback from Kuwaiti participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing admiration for Malta’s diverse offerings and beauty. The joint promotional efforts have been successful, with many attendees expressing a strong desire to revisit Malta. Regarding the possibility of launching direct flights between Kuwait and Malta, Ambassador Dr. Said-Zammit explained that work on this matter is still ongoing. The procedures require time and the completion of necessary permits through official channels in both countries, but there is hope about reaching a future agreement in this regard. Concerning visa procedures, the ambassador clarified that they are governed by Maltese national legislation and European Union regulations. He noted that all applications undergo official review before a decision is made, emphasizing the commitment to follow the applicable rules despite concerns about the short visa duration.
Ambassador Dr. Said-Zammit revealed that more than 200 Kuwaitis reside in or visit Malta annually, including students and their families, and emphasized the importance of strengthening the tourism sector and increasing the number of Kuwaiti visitors in the coming period. He added that around 100 Kuwaiti students are currently studying in Malta in various academic disciplines. Regarding official visits, the ambassador announced the possibility of a Maltese trade delegation visiting Kuwait in February, clarifying that the visit aims to explore opportunities for trade and investment cooperation and discuss the exchange of products between the two countries for promoting mutual interests and opening new avenues for economic collaboration. He emphasized the depth of his personal connection with Kuwait, describing the country as his “second home.” He shared that when preparing to visit Kuwait, he tells his family that he is “going to his second home”, which reflects his affection and respect for Kuwait and its people.
In conclusion, Ambassador Dr. Said- Zammit addressed Kuwaiti citizens, affirming that Malta, like Kuwait, is a country with a positive spirit and friendly people, assuring that Kuwaiti visitors will feel welcome and comfortable. He added, “Based on past experiences, many Kuwaitis who have visited Malta have expressed their desire to return a second and third time, which is the best evidence of the success of these efforts.”
