  1. Lobster is a stupid, tasteless and classless dish. A sea insect. Tastes of rubber and is lathered in disgusting amounts of butter.

  2. I’m so glad to hear this, it’s unnecessary cruel to cook them alive

  3. I’m all for treating crustaceans humanly, but did this really need legislation, especially given how little lobster we eat in this country? I feel like a guidance note would have done the job

  4. I think this is good, but to not address non-stun Halal and Kosher slaughter is a bit odd. Sheep, Cows and Chickens all feel pain, and to slit their throats and let them bleed to death in the volumes that they are eaten (vs lobster) feels like a big miss for animal welfare.

  5. I thought it was already illegal to do this here, better late than never

  6. Good. There are other cruel things we could ban as well.

  7. I mean the best method is to always pierce the head and slice down to kill them instantly…THEN boil them.

No one wants to hear the scream!

  8. Good. Animals rights transcends the political spectrum. We can ALL agree on that

  9. Pretty sure it’s standard across most of the industry to go in through the head with a knife and cut the brain in half before cooking.

  10. If the issue is animal cruelty , wouldn’t *not killing* them at all be the best measure? It’s a bit hypocritical.

Saying this as a meat eater who enjoys lobster.

  11. Yet completely avoiding halal and kosher. No suprise.

  12. Ban all vehicular motion that might kill insects while alive.

  13. This is great news. Especially pleased to see that chickens and pigs will get better conditions too – the way they are kept is torture

  14. Ah yes, I’m sure the lobsters will be celebrating into the small hours that they will, instead, be killed by a friendly massive chef’s knife through the face!

  15. Seriously, why only now.

This is incredibly cruel and I find it baffling that the end of 2025 it’s finally being thought about.

I don’t care how better it tastes, fuck anyone who does this to a living creature.

  16. Who cares? If you’re going to kill it anyway what’s the difference?

  17. my god did this really need a law? So many more important things to worry about… Are we going to put a law in place to enforce saying thank you after someone opens the door too?

  18. This is excellent, good to see animals being considered more. I would like to see this extended to other seafood like squid and octopus. These don’t really get farmed in the U.K. but we still get them imported and they are intelligent. I don’t eat seafood personally.

On to mammals, and this also needs to be fixed. Both in life and death. I want to see more enrichment and space for them.

I don’t care about kosher and halal requirements, they need a quick and painless death. If it needs to happen then they shouldn’t know what’s happening. The government need to man up and get them stunned, no arguments.

  19. The question is, will they also ban the sale of live lobster? If not, then there’s nothing to prevent an amateur chef buying one to boil at home.

  20. Aren’t lobsters sold in frozen packages mainly in supermarkets?

  21. I’d rather ban Halal and Kosher methods. Barbarism.

  22. Good, always hated this. Boiling something alive is cruel and just weird.
