On Saturday, December 20th, a Nissan car was stolen in Drusti parish, Smiltene district which contained a hunting weapon and ammunition, according to the State Police.

Police received a report from a man that his Nissan car had been stolen in Drusti parish, Smiltene region. The man had arrived at an acquaintance’s place for an event in a vehicle. When he woke up in the morning, he discovered that the car keys had been stolen from his jacket pocket, as well as the car itself. A hunting rifle and cartridges were left in the vehicle.

Even before the car was reported stolen, the State Police received information that the vehicle in question was being driven, possibly under the influence of alcohol. The car was found parked in Rūjiena, Valmiera district and one person was detained nearby – a man born in 2004. The breath of the detained man was found to contain 1.51 per mille of alcohol.

The hunting weapon and ammunition were also found and seized. A criminal investigation has been initiated into the incident, and all the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.

The State Police reminds that the circulation of weapons and ammunition is strictly regulated, and the owner of the weapon is obliged to ensure its safe storage and transportation in order to prevent the weapon from falling into the possession of unauthorized persons. The owner of the weapon may be subject to administrative punishment for careless storage of the weapon.
