France is to build a new aircraft carrier. The aim is to get the new vessel ready for service in 2038. It will replace the aging Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier which came into service in 2001. Our sister channel France 2 had this report, narrated by Nicholas Rushworth.

Only 30 Rafales?
It needs to be able to launch and recover planes simultaneously and be able to operate US F-18E/F and F-35C aircraft the same way Rafale aircraft can operate from US Navy carriers. If it can do that, it would prove far more useful than the new UK Queen Elizabeth aircraft carriers.
