When asked if the new class of ships is developed to counter China, Trump said they are intended to counter “everybody.”
“They’ll be the fastest, the biggest and by far, 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built,” Trump said standing alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a Mar-a-Lago public appearance.
How about a starship while we’re doomspending
Alfred Mahan’s ideas about nations securing their place in global geopolitics through the use of large, heavy battleships became obsolete around a century ago. A 30,000 ton BB is essentially comparable to the USS Missouri, which is currently a museum ship at permanent anchor in Pearl Harbor. These days, a ship’s size offers little advantage, and simply makes it an easier target for anti-ship missiles.
Needless to say, this idea is completely bonkers and was cooked up purely to inflate Trump’s ego. None of these ships will ever even reach the design phase.
This ain’t happening. But it sure seems like fun to announce things.
Somehow I think this is it, the most farcical thing so far.
I predict we will see GTA VI long before this happens.
*”Trump said the timeline of building the ships would be about two and a half years.”*
Hahahahahahaha. Ha. Ha. Oh wow. Hah.
Trump may be the dumbest leader the world has ever seen.
The age of battleships ended early during the Second World War, and the British and Japanese proved that end decisively.
Golden battleships? Will they have sails and gunports, too? (Both made of gold also, of course.) This is more r/noncredibledefense than r/geopolitics.
30,000 ton is pretty damn big. Roughly 2x a Zumwalt class in size. I imagine the idea is to have a very large magazine depth for sustained – although that timeline is hilariously optimistic.
Just when you think he’s running out of stupid ideas he comes up with stuff like this. He truly is a jenius.
I taught for sure that his was the onion, designing a building a ship in 2.5 years… lmao
How much would this cost?
They really just took the DDG(X), tripled the tonnage and slapped it with all the buzzwords.
Considering the Gerald R. Ford took roughly 15 years from design to delivery and another 5 until deployment, I’m not holding my breath. It more than likely never see the light of day.
Who knew Trumps’ fanboying for the Nazis would extend to bringing back the Panzerschiffe, but bigger, and gold.
