Ok. Lets make Hungary from the rest of the Europe.
I think that everyone involved in this discussion understands that what he’s really saying is “leave us alone and keep giving us money please”.
I’m actually quite interested in how the EU goes forward over the next 10-20 years. A lot of previously piss poor eastern states are starting to get a footing.
I don’t think it’ll go smoothly and I geniunely do think the EU may need to eventually reform its aims. This point being when it is reached that its not just deemed a free money source, and as eastern europe develops more – this becomes a bigger and bigger issue. At the moment everyones too happy to receive free money – which also makes me wonder why western europe are so happy to pay taxes to fund another country.
So no more free press? No more academic freedom?
Fuck Orban but he isn’t wrong about the EU needing reforms. Don’t think those reforms will happen though because at least part of them will mean countries will have to give up parts of their sovereignty, such as countries no longer having a veto on sanctions.
I definitely wouldn’t want to be in an EU who’ll look like today’s Hungary.
So turn it in a shithole? What about no?
That would have been possible if he rode the post-2015 migration crisis political capital he could have made. But he went deep into the alt right crazy zone instead.
This should be the way of thought regardless if you disagree with the things they want to reform or not.
So this is good news. Not sure why people are upset when the alternative is countries feeling like they get no say and feel like leaving is the only solution or sabotaging/fighting the EU
Don’t we all…
Hungary likes EU money, paid in by the taxpayers from other member states.
Ok. The UK tried to reform for 30 years and got nowhere, but I’m sure Hungary has got the muscle and influence to succeed where the 2nd largest economy in the union at the time failed. I won’t wish him good luck, because he won’t even need it.
Like king Henry. He and Poland can stay in whatever “True and reformed EU” they want while the rest of it go on in a spin off.
lmao
Translation: “The only thing about the EU I actually want to change is the democracy/human rights whistleblowing part of it.”
No one is going to leave the EU.
Greatest polticial mind in EU
Of course he doesn’t want to leave, he gets too much juicy money from the EU
You want to reform the EU? Put the richest oligarchs behind bars.
I think I’ve seen this before…
Why would one of the most pro EU countries leave?
I guess Orban likes getting money from both Russia and the EU
Yeah except that the reform that Orban proposes would mean less democratic oversight (dissolution of the European Parliament, for instance), more unanimity, less competencies for European institutions, etc. While these reforms would surely be helpful for Orban and others like him by allowing them unrestricted siphoning of European money, they are the exact opposite of what the EU needs at the moment.
oh this is gonna be hilarious
Yeah well good luck convincing the trillon-euro-budged practically-a-superpower-at-this-point organisation run by countries who actually know how to do things to change said organisation, China-puppet-boy.
“bruh i just want mega super emperor of doom as a title just a little reform what’s the issue u guys are so mean”
gulash for everyone
Ahh yes Hungary. The country that obviously can throw around its weight in the EU
He should start the reform by rejecting all funds going into Hungary’s dirty politicians’ pockets
Alternative title: “The wannabe fascist freeloader of the EU want to manage it”

Also, yes let’s reform the EU so we’re being able to punish country like Poland and Hungary.
He does not want to reform it, he just does not want to lose money.
Orban says a lot of things
So much mixing of issues in this thread.
Orban is a tosser because he has undermined freedom of speech (possibly rule of law, too?). Poland’s actions have actually been worse from a legal standpoint, though, as it genuinely seems to be rejecting fundamental values and assumptions that make the EU work. (Primacy of EU legislation etc.). This is stuff he signed up to when he joined the EU. He deserves to be sanctioned for it.
He did _not_ sign up to any laws regarding gay marriage (though I think Hungary allows it), transgender rights, refugee redistribution or any other woke rubbish young Western European’s happen to find important. He as entitled to differ from the EU on these issues as any other country, and to build coalitions within the EU to fight his corner.
He’s not the only one who thinks the EU is bureaucratic and clunky, or that the EP is a waste of space and resources given what it does. Given that most people in the EU still associate closely with their national governments, it makes sense that the Council remains the chief decision making body.
He was right and continues to be right about the migration issue, and it should be obvious to everyone by now that the existing human rights framework is not fit for purpose.
It is neither here nor there whether Hungary gets money from the EU. All countries in the EU have the same rights and duties. Receiving funds does not mean you have to shut up any more than being a net contributor means you can ignore the rules. Realpolitik may loo a bit different, but those are the principles.
Mate, you are 2 vs 25 on these “reforms” though.
“We don’t want to leave the EU at all, they can’t get rid of us so easily,” he said. “We want to keep our sovereignty and we don’t want to find ourselves in a united states of Europe, instead of integration.”
Opposing anything but the EU money must be the integration he is talking about. He is a true populist idol for us all.
They can’t leave because they don’t want to lose €€€.
Needless to say, it’s far more likely that the EU will reform Hungary than the other way around. Time to start turning off that money tap, the EU have tolerated this for far too long.
We should all leave the eu and create a new Union without Hungary and Poland.
