EU citizens, US tech multinationals are pressuring the Irish government (Who control the EU’s most important digital oversight bodies) to water-down your rights in the dark.

  1. Pressure from other European countries might be the thing to force the Irish government to back away, but that pressure needs to be exerted soon.

Don’t trust the Irish government to do the right thing on privacy and digital rights. They are completely beholden to the US tech sector.

  2. > no detailed notes be taken at the meeting, expressing concerns that any records of what was discussed would be subject to Freedom of Information (FoI)

Just another entry for “why are the ex terrorists the most popular party in both Irelands currently”.

  3. Not entirely true. The Irish Data Protection Commissioner is the first body to investigate data related issued for companies based in Ireland BUT their findings are shared with the other in involved EU DPCs who may reject them.

  4. I’ve always felt leaving digital oversight up to individual nations isn’t a great idea. Doing it at an EU level would help get around conflict of interest issues.
