CALIFORNIA: “Crops ready to be harvested were abandoned – left to die in a field simply because there wasn’t enough labor… workers are showing up less because of (Trump’s) ICE raids.”

  1. Compelling presentation. Also need to know how he voted and legal status of his workers.

  2. Without wanting to generalize, is there a will to get out of this situation? He should see up close a poor country where people are dying of hunger

  3. Y’all need to start eating like Trump and you won’t have to worry about veggies rotting in the field any more.

Try picking this daily Trump afternoon snack instead: Two Big Macs, one Fillet-o-Fish, two large fries, a large Diet Coke and a vanilla shake.

  4. Ok- but maybe hire people legitimately, then?

Pay a competitive wage and adjust your business model.

It’s called adapting. It’s what you right wing people insist everyone else does so why is it so foreign of a concept to you?

And if subsidies and corporate welfare are the only means you have to earn a profit then your business model is obsolete and you must perish.

Play by the same rules which govern me and THEN you can have my attention.

  5. Didn’t we call these people “essential workers” in 2021?

  6. So US need foreign slaves to keep US food cheap? Seems nothing changed last 150 years.

  7. Comments cracking on farmers for hiring illegal immigrants are missing the point. The hated “brown people,” even those here legally, aren’t showing up because ICE will grab them and drum up some fake problem like that they are part of a gang so the administration can pump up the deportation numbers. To the extent that farmers use illegal immigrant labor, they need to because there is a shortage of labor. Finally, to those who say “just pay more to attact labor and raise your prices” I say, “Have you ever run a business?” Simply paying more and raising prices sounds like a simple solution but rarely is. This farmer is competing with all the other farmers in the US and to some extent with farmers in Mexico and South America.

I think a better solution would be to have an intelligent immigration policy that recognizes our need for labor. This dramatic “deport them all and let God sort them out” is a stupid policy created by stupid people pandering to other stupid people.

  8. Awesome. High school level Econ works!

    Next prices will go up.

Can’t wait to hear how they spin out of this.

  9. All the water that was diverted to grow those crops was wasted.

  10. USA was founded as a slave economy, it is reverting to a slave economy.

  11. All by design. Let them go bankrupt, so private equity can buy them for pennies on the dollar, then undo the policies to profit

  12. We’re supposed to feel sorry for this rich guy cus he can’t undercut Americans any more?

  13. Don’t worry. RFK Jr already solved this with his wellness farms. No problems here. Just an opportunity to make young people with drug addictions or mental health issues perform slave labor. There are millions of potential laborers as they reclassify everything to do with LGBTQ+ and refusing to accept far right talking points as a mental health issue.

  14. California has lots of people without jobs and sleeping the streets, why not hire them?

  15. If illegal people are not going to cut it then why not try to get a new demographic, such as former criminals, Hell why not try to get homeless people to do it. There are some homeless people that became homeless because they lost their job, so give them one will help them. (YA there are people who decide they want to be homeless, I have meet a few, nice people. Usually keep themselves clean somehow, they were more like hippies)

Really everybody complains but nobody wants to adapt.

This is why business close down, they refuse to adapt.

  16. Should get unionized, then you might be able to portect your workers.

  17. Same as what happened in Alabama and Georgia when they tried this at the state level in 2012-ish. Those efforts lasted less than a year because it cost them too much in lost production.

  18. How about you say I can pay xx amount for as much as i can carry. I’ll hit up a local farm and stock up. I get a deal, you get paid for the crobs, and I’m the labor.

  19. Go through the programs to bring migrant workers in legally, odd that artichoke prices are still good here. You don’t know jack shit you little fool. You’re the true definition of a useful idiot.

  20. Maybe these immigration raids serve multiple purposes at the same time; (1) satisfy the maga supporters, (2) claiming to do what he was voted to do, and (3) hit blue states economy especially CA when it’s combined with tightening H1B and student visa.

Although plenty of red states were affected as well, I can see maga saying it’s worth it if they can take down California.

  21. “Agriculture workers are all illegals!”

“So there should be consequences for the agricultural industry for exploiting undocumented workers?”

    “How *dare* you!”

  22. I know some us farm (companies) have land and water rights in both the southern states and mexico. I presume mostly to rotate through crops at different times of the year. . I’ve noticed more and more of my produce coming from mexico instead of California and Arizona. I’ve wondered if some more water rights would end up shipped to mexico, by some mechanism, so that more produce could be grown in Mexico. I do see an irony in it. But the mechanics of doing that makes a lot of sense to me.

  23. “Nobody will run these Fortune 500 companies. We offered CEO’s $75k per year, but there were no takers. These companies cannot find executives simply because there is no Labor.”

    Lol.

  24. I guess we found the opportunity for those on SNAP to meet their 20 hours of work per week.
