Bring on the platinum jubilee … but what will happen to Britain’s monarchy in the decades to come? – The Queen’s popularity has all but silenced the once boisterous republican movement. But don’t expect it to remain quiet for ever

  1. When the Queen passes over we will have King Charles who’ll make a good go at it, he’s very well liked and very popular.

After him I imagine William will be popular, him and Kate are widely respected and loved.

The less said about his brother and wife the better.

Many royal experts anyway say they’ll continue having support from the majority, the stereotypical user of r/uk will say different of course.

  2. Republican sentiment will increase a bit when the Queen dies, but I really don’t see it being anything like a majority in my lifetime (I’m 36).

If Charles does scale back the royal family then I think that might take some of the heat off as well.

  3. Shame that the UK will likely keep the Queen but hopefully the commonwealth will keep reducing themselves.

Theres a fair chance that independent Scotland will vote to remove them too.

Can’t imagine England ever removing them (or voting a government that would ever give them a chance).

  4. I don’t mind Brenda Windsor that much, but really, what do we keep them around for (other than keeping the dimwitted Yank tourists happy as they trundle around London)?

  5. Ya’ll could use a bit of a buffer between you and legislators or those that pretend to be … a shame Uk only uses their royals as picturesque instead of actually being of value to their people, unlike your politicians.

Yeah, we have our idiots too … more than a fair share of them … guess we’re all fucked.

  6. She earned her *stripes* in WWII, but I see little to commend the rest of the crew.

You have elected officials who ignore you or harm you purposefully… a Queen limited as to how she might assist her subjects and Corporations and the Uber-Wealthy eating your soul (as they are ours) … the problem is not the monarchy, it’s the buggers you elected and will elect again.
