Ukrainian troops withdraw from Siversk • FRANCE 24 English

Ukraine confirmed on Tuesday that the eastern town of Siversk has been captured by Russian troops. Emmanuelle Chaze, FRANCE 24’s correspondent in Ukraine, says Russia has been encircling Siversk for nearly four years.

“It became a strategic city as early as 2022 because it opens the way for Russian troops towards bigger, more strategic cities,” she said.

  1. Siversk was the strongest fortress in the area that prevented the Russians from establishing a foothold in that region and contributed to their withdrawals back in 2022. Now that they control it, the tables have flipped on the Ukrainians.

  2. Ukraine is winning the war. Ukraine has already captured Moscow and Dagestan. I trust the Western media completely; battlefield reality is clearly unreliable. According to reports, Ukraine intercepts 400 missiles daily under Zelensky and possesses more interceptors than Israel. Battlefield math checks out.

  3. T h e west and Ukraine has MISTAKEN MERCY FOR WEAKNESS.!!!!!

It is incorrect that Russias lack of advance is the result of weakness. It is the result of Mercy, he was hoping it wouldn't get this far, that someone would come to their senses abd NEGOTIATE.

  4. Siversk fell a month ago. Why do you report now? Ask the French to send another €90 billion to Ukraine as brave Ukraine's fight for Europe. If Ukraine loses then European existence will be over.😂😂😂

  5. On December 23, Ukraine finally acknowledged losing Siversk in Donetsk, as the Russian military continued to advance to the west and south of the key city. The General Staff said in a statement that Ukrainian troops were pulled out from Siversk after a push by the Russian military.

The Ukrainian acknowledgment of the defeat came as the Russian military continued to expand its control around Siversk.

To the west of Siversk, the Yug Group of Forces captured a high area with a size of five square kilometers after the chalk quarry. Russian troops also advanced to the south of the city, more specifically between Sviato-Pokrovske and Pazeno, securing more than 20 square kilometers.

The capture of Siversk and later gains put the Yug Group of Forces in a solid position to start advancing northwest towards the city of Slovyansk.

Slovyansk is located at the intersection of major highways, rail lines, close to the Siverskyi Donets River, which makes it a critical logistical and defensive node for Kyiv forces. The Yug Group of Forces will likely be joined by the Zapad [West] Group of Forces in the attack on the city.

The Zapad Group of Forces is already operating around the city of Liman, to the north of Siversk. It recently broke through Ukrainian defenses to the south of the city, and advanced northwest of Dibrova mainly towards the key road leading to Sloviansk.

Overall, Ukrainian defenses around Sloviansk could collapse next year within a few months under pressure from the directions of Siversk and Liman. The battle for the city will not likely begin, however, until Liman is fully secured by the Russian military. In any case, Kyiv does not likely have sufficient resources to defend the city.

  6. What makes Ukraine soldiers flee Siversk?

Bcos Western media is telling us that Ukraine is gaining back territory and even advancing…
    😢

  7. You don't need to reach me that's that's where your problem is anybody got to come around me know you don't cuz I'm not I'm nobody

  8. Ukraine is winnig😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  9. Wonderful,at least common sense prevailed this time around. There is absolutely no need to sacrifice soldiers you can't replace if you have options. Even if it's for a little while. That's should be the most important task right now.
