The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) of Moldova and the General Inspectorate of Police of Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, in order to strengthen institutional cooperation in the field of witness protection.


The document was signed at an official meeting between the head of the National Police, Viorel Cernauteanu, and the delegation of the Romanian IGP, led by Vasile Costea.


The memorandum shows the common commitment of the two institutions to develop and strengthen mechanisms for witness protection, in accordance with international standards and best practices, with a view to effectively combating organized crime.


In the context, the sides emphasized the need for continuous adaptation of witness protection policies and strategies to the developments in the criminal environment, as well as the importance of Moldova’s aligning with European standards in this field.


The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding reconfirms the IGP leadership’s commitment to promote bilateral cooperation and mutual assistance, contributing to the strengthening of national and regional security.
